and everything has turned out for the worst when we were at our best. man was i unhappy. barkley's attitude annoyed me.
Wait just a minute...if my memory serves me right, there seemed to be a lot of discussions at the time (and afterwards) that SA was possibly tanking games for the above reason. And, while Duncan is a huge key in SA's success...their success probably has more to do with the level of role players that SA has been able to bring in. They do not have the best athletes in the league...just, consistently, one of the best teams. That's what a good GM can achieve.
A lot of teams tanked that season to get Duncan. Unfortunately this draft has no one close to Duncan's level, why couldn't the NBA have changed their rule this year? then Oden would have been in it.
glad to see people sharing my POV. the NCAA tourny hasn't been this fun in a long time! outside of the big names, i'd like to see us get someone like brandon roy. seems to be a perfect fit as a 3rd scorer, 3pt shooter, and starting 2. http://nbadraft.net/profiles/brandonroy.asp http://www.draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=343 i would also love to spend the MLE on bringing in cassell. i think those two moves would bring up our guard play enough to be a contender.
Great post smoothie, being a Rockets fan can be hard at time but in my 25 years of being a fan when we do reach that championship level again, man, it will be so sweet and mainly because of the lows
So true. Any NBA organization which has been able to assemble a nucleus in the calibre of Yao and Tmac deserves serious credit.
Well clyde will be the idiot for shooting the ball too early that last game ( then stockton had the chance to win the game)
exactly. plus, even though this season was terrible we will be adding a lotto pick who can (hopefully) contribute right away.
9/11 happened because the agent who detained Moussaoui beforehand couldn't convince his bosses to press for a search of Moussaoui's computer. Yes, everything happens for a reason. But usually the reason sucks.
Bring JJ to Texas! The original post in this thread was a good read. It didn't lead to anything, but it was a fun read.
Good thread, smoothie. And I still have high hopes for V-Span. The scouting reports on him do not scream "JVG player" but the positive reports about his game (and his shooting pctgs.) really seem like he already is something we don't currently have. I too have always like Luther and if he can learn to play as intelligently as Wesley he's an asset. Thumbs, regarding Wesley I do think he's been brutalized here, but he was so damn good last year until the last few games of the season and in hindsight I should have realized physically he wasn't right. But he simply can't do what he was able to last year, and though I've said I think he was JVG's favorite player last year I think he's gone after the season ends. To me, Swift is still the X-factor here in terms of where we'll sit next year. The problem is we've heard so many rumors that I do think he drives JVG crazy. And honestly I am not as down on him as I was in the first half of the season. Swift probably doesn't deserves even the opportunities JVG has given him, but I think now we have to play the guy as much as possible. Rafer is still a positive to me and I'd really like to see him with a full season with T-Mac and Yao on the floor. His shooting this year has been terrible, but I really think he can do much better.
two of the best points made. the season is basically over, lets see a rotation of yao swift and hayes at the 4/5. i think Jho has had an awesome year but let the young guys play most of the minutes the rest of the way. rafer had a tough year. however, when playing with yao and tmac he did a great job moving the ball around and pushing the tempo. he's a keeper for next season in my book.
thanks! sorry it couldn't lead to anything because i can't predict the future. i would've loved to end it with "thanks to this terrible season we lucked out and got the rookie of the year from the 7th pick (i think we can tank that low), what a steal. his shooting, defense, and scoring ability led us to the finals. that's when spending out MLE on cassell really came in handy. all in all a great championship year!"
