Why would he restructure his deal? It's guaranteed. This isn't like the NFL where guys "voluntarily" give up salary in in place of signing bonuses to reduce salary cap dollars and to keep from getting waived. You know, I've been pretty unproductive at work myself lately, maybe I should give back some of my salary. j
Now Rox has two new cars, Yao and Cato. Unfortunately, Rox only drive one car, Yao, most of the time. The other car, Cato, is resting in the garage. Meaning while, the roof, our PF line, is leaking. The problem is we spend too much money on cars, and don't have much money left to fix the roof. The car, Cato, has no fault on its own, but we have better use of the money we spend on him.
I just want to say that we're NOT stuck in Cato's contract. We can deal him for a decent player. His value is up, and for a team like Milwaukee, New York, or Miami, Cato would be a solid addition. I was thinking, if Orlando get their 4.8M exception, how would you guys feel about a deal involving Cato for the exception and a contract? Maybe Cato for the exception and Declerq would probably be a good deal. We save some cash, and get a backup C in return. He's no Cato, but he can play 10 minutes, I'm sure. Orlando would still have any trade bait they still have as Declerq has no value, AND they would still have their 4.8M MLE to offer as well as the veteran minimum, while looking like this: Cato/Hunter Gooden/Garrity Giricek/Garrity/T-Mac T-Mac No one I guess they can send Garrity somewhere for a PG (Moochie?), and spend their exception on a backup F. Assuming they get (just off the top of my head) Eisley and PJ Brown, while drafting Leandro Barbosa or Luke Ridnour, they immediately become a contender for top spot in the East.
We should trade Cato for Malik Rose. They seem like similar players, except Cato would allow Duncan to stay at PF and Rose can play PF with Yao and back up the center position.
Kelly Cato is the HALLUCINATION he is moderately average player, who plays decent defense and can rebound and can catch the occasional pass for an alley dunk. he has no offensive game and drops plenty of passes too. sure he is better than what he was when he first signed that 42 million contract, but he still NOT worth the money we are paying him.
I couldn't agree more with this statement. Far too often players have gotten a big money contract and then just "cadillac" their way through it (see Moochie Norris). Cato has NO offensive game. He is one of the highest paid back-ups in the NBA. Just because he looks decent in 12-18 minutes a game doesn't mean is now worth that contract. Jim McIlvaine looked great when he was with the Sonics, he recorded a block every 3 minutes, of course he played only twelve minutes a game. NJ went out and paid big time money to him and he was a huge bust, Cato is in the same boat. Now that he is a back-up, he is suddenly worthy of 7mil per year? Hopefully the Rockets can find a center with an affordable low-dollar contract and can move Cato for a pick or decent contributor. The biggest gripe with Cato is that he is getting paid starter's money and playing like a second and sometimes a third-stringer.
If they can get those oven mitts off Cato's hands, he might turn out to be some kind of player. They might untie his shoes while they're at it.
See, J.Dub? This is what I was talking about. It's about the money! I wonder what Cato should get in pay once his contract is up? 6 year, 20 mil? 5 year, 25 mil? 4 year, 15 mil? 3 year, 10 mil? What is he worth?
