Why should he apologize for protesting a war that almost everybody now sees as one of the worst debacles in our country's history?

Another way to deal with the deficit, when you know the economy is depressed, don't spend at record levels.

This is a completely laughable argument, made by someone who does not understand capital budgeting or basic economics. Andymoon, here you are simply repeating the mindless mantras of your handlers on economic issues -- Hollywood actors, singers, long haired hippies, Starbucks baristas, and liberal arts professors (and lecturers and grad students) would be proud of you. It's demagoguery and nothing more. It's simply an attempt to scare people and it has absolutely no depth of understanding in it whatsoever. Andy, what do you know about finance? What do you know about the appropriate capital structure of an entity? Is it always debt free? Did you know that General Electric, one of the highest rated credits in the *world*, has over $300 BILLION of debt on its balance sheet? Did you know that? Does anyone doubt their financial strength? NO. You can learn something every day andymoon, you really can....

Trader_J, do you think it's a good idea to cut taxes in the middle of a war? Did FDR during WWII? Did Truman then and in Korea? Did Eisenhower? Did LBJ? Did we cut taxes during WWI? During the Civil War? During the War of 1812? During our Revolutionary War?

Did we? Not that I recall. You think that makes sense? Truly??

Deckard, your question indicates to me your lack of understanding of basic fiscal policy. The decision to raise or lower taxes is affected by much much more than a country being engaged in war. Your attempt to boil it down to a binary, yes/no equation is simply uninformed. This is what I ask of you:

Read my last post. Think about it. Recognize that you are unfamiliar with the capital budgeting process, the capital markets and the economy as a whole. Reconsider your opinion once you have gathered more information on the topics.

Basic fiscal policy? Like not spending what you don't have?

Your response indicates to me your lack of understanding of the sacrifices Americans have always been willing to make, and have made, during wartime. Sacrifices you and other advocates of cutting taxes seem to ignore, irregardless of that fact.

And you didn't answer my question.

First of all Deckard, my questions, which were asked before your questions, remain unanswered by you.

Second, I did answer your question, if you were savvy enough to read between the lines. I do not believe taxes should be raised when the economy is growing out of a downturn. I would prefer to raise capital in the debt markets in one of the best interest rate environments of all time. This is very very basic financial common sense that the liberals seem to ignore.

    Now answer my questions.

You're not capable of playing. That's why you don't play. This is my problem with the liberals. They spout off all of these moronic economic sound bites without knowing a darn thing about finance or economics. Not a thing! They don't know capital markets from capital punishment. Yet that doesn't stop them from propagating lies across this BBS and across America on a daily basis. No wonder they hold virtually no positions of power on the national level. People quit listening to the charlatans.

So I'm supposed to take from your lack of response that you do think it's a good idea to cut taxes in the middle of a war? And that Americans shouldn't sacrifice, that they should have their cake and eat it too?
Sending the bill to their grandchildren?

Umm... I did respond. Did you even read my response? It doesn't sound like it. Read my response. I'm still waiting for yours. I doubt you have the financial wherewithal to respond, but here's hoping.

More demagoguery (grandchildren references) and grandstanding. No change from the liberals...

So, are you arguing that our capital structure is optimum? Is that what Greenspan says?

And what happens if the Euro starts to become the hard currency of choice? I.e., we no longer get to subsidize part of our trade and budget deficits by printing money for foreign markets? And what happens if we have a President whose unilateral approach to foreign policy ;) may precipitate the conversion?

Do you really want to be ignored by the majority of posters here? If that's your goal, you're well on your way. So you're incapable of a straight forward answer?

Do you believe that we should cut taxes and not sacrifice our bottom line during wartime?

edit: That was CUT taxes... do you believe that we should cut taxes and not sacrifice our bottom line during wartime?

Then who will pay the debt? If you and I are putting it on a credit card (and rolling up the interest), who pays the debt?

The debt won't just disappear. Someday, we *WILL* have to pay it back.

Deckard, what is laughable is that you are accusing me of not giving you a straightforward answer when you have given me NO ANSWER. This is laughable. I gave you a straightforward answer, you were unable to understand it, and now you are hurling insults? Ridiculous.

I repeat myself for the reading impaired: I answered you by saying that the decision must incorporate more variables than whether or not we are at war. War is one part of a massive financial decision making process. It is folly to impose a financial burden on America when the economy is growing out of a downturn. Now do you understand, or do I need to answer you three times?

Can you give me some examples of tax cuts during major wars in our history?

edit: gotta go for awhile... back later.

No, he can't, he is just interested in obfuscating the issue.
