By the way, that's an example of Rudy's simple mind.

I mean, where's the coaching skill in telling a guy, "Stand out here and when you get the ball, shoot!"? He's done this with Griffin too.

Rudy under-utilizes a supporting players' development (stand around only).

And he over-utilizes the "star" players development (iso only).

    Uhg...

He said the Rockets should have taken Jay Williams. Unforgivable.

I would like to keep Rudy, and bring back Bill Berry as an assistant. He was let go by the Bulls for being the "bad cop", which IMO is EXACTLY what we need - an a$$ kicker thrown into the mix.

Toward the end of the season, I actually heard one NBA commentator refer to the Rocket's style of basketball as a "street-ball style".

On the Nets-Celtics telecast last night it was announced that the Cavs had asked the Knicks for permission to talk to Van Gundy about their head coaching vacancy.

I thought that was what Larry Smith did. Remember Steve's comment?

Intersting that JVG has publicly said he wants to get a new bench gig. But, has refused overtures from NO (out of loyalty to Silas, it is said), Cleveland, and Toronto.

It 'sounds like' JVG has a particular opening in mind. Portland, perhaps? Wiz? Bulls? Somewhere else (Houston?)? I believe he is signed, sealed, but not public;y delivered 'somewhere'.

I think Steve to Rudy to Rutgers and said this is how we are supposed to play basketball. Maybe Rudy had a few too many to drink because he clearly believed him. This team definately has an And1 tour feel to it. Except they pass better than we do.

We Smith may be our Bad Cop but he doesn't appear to be tough enough to put some discipline into Mobley and EG. We need someone to lock EG and Yao in a weight room, make Mobley watch about game film until he can tell the difference between a good shot and a bad shot and then teach Mo how to play some D. All that sounds like a few good assistents to me. Rudy really needs to consider bringing in some help in handling these young guys or letting someone else run the show. He's too nice a guy to bruise a few egos and make players improve or ride the bench.

I don't know that JVG would get anything done with this group, he yells a lot but I've never been too impressed with his ability to call a game. As predictable as Rudy is I don't know that JVG would be that different.

"I love Othella Harrington. That guy to me epitomizes what a professional should be."

From oxford.com "epitome" is defined as a "person or thing embodying a quality..."

Embodiment of professionalism? Gimme a break. The sugar-coating on this statement is diabetes in the making.

You forget who is the assistant coach for the national team then? It was Larry Brown. I do believe assistant coach play big role in game offensive/defensive sets. Head coach is more like setting the overall direction of the team and game time decision.

I dont want to really argue a mute point, but here I go anyway. I would say a professional person is someone who shows up and does what he is asked. He doesnt need a "spotlight" to do his job. A professional, to me is a player who shows up early and stays late. Now of course I dont know that Othella does that, but I know a man who would know; Jeff Van Gundy.

"When the calculating Van Gundy truly has designs on a team (and the feeling by management is mutual), the media will be the last to find out. Then again, sources say should Houston's Rudy Tomjanovich be pushed upstairs, that's the job Van Gundy covets."

Here's the rest of that NY Post blurb:

"When the calculating Van Gundy truly has designs on a team (and the feeling by management is mutual), the media will be the last to find out. Then again, sources say should Houston's Rudy Tomjanovich be pushed upstairs, that's the job Van Gundy covets. Owner Les Alexander - convinced his Rockets underachieved- may use his coach's bout with cancer as a convenient excuse to make a move. That is, if insurance will cover the remaining two-year, $12M obligation."

This is the first I've heard of Les exploring the option of making an isurance claim to recover some of Rudy's salary. If Les does want to remove Rudy, maybe it's taking time to figure out how he can do this so that the insurance will pick up the tab.

Hmm....so that means he would like to coach the Rockets if he got the chance!!!!!!!!! Whoo.....I wish. Well I don't know if he's a good coach. But I guess he is the best coach available right now...besides Rudy.

Bob Allen of Channel 13 in Houston also report this story by Peter Vecsey tonight. Allen had tried to contact the Rockets for comment. But of course, he didn't get any calls back. Allen reported Rudy reported that he still want to coach. I think there is something going on with our coaching's situation. Wait to see if Mark Berman of Channel 26 had any exclusive news on this front.
