Not because Loretta was in the lineup...but because Everett wasnt in the lineup. He decided right then and there to go crazy and hit homeruns. Clearly.
you keep saying you're not saying this...and then you say it again. THE NOTION THAT REPLACING AE WITH ANYONE ELSE IN OUR LINEUP AND THAT AMOUNTING TO AN EXTRA "RUN OR TWO" PER GAME IS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS.
hey, this discussion "lives" elsewhere, too! with names like Arky and Burzmali in the mix! http://www.orangewhoopass.com/forums/index.php?topic=102666.0
Hmm...I decided to look it up to see if where you got the info from. In the 13 games he played in June, he hit .228. He had an OBP of .275 and slugged .316. Now, if you want to consider his last 20 games in May, where he was doing better, he hit .237...with 3 xtra base hits out of his 14 total hits. 2 walks and 15 strike outs. Yeah, so I dont see where you pulled .270-.310 from. Maybe if we pick his 10 best games out of his last 30 games?
I don't know where you got those numbers from, but he hit 0.277 in June. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/6389/splits;_ylt=Am39BU12UPusQEM9WgGHALWFCLcF He was also on a 5-game hitting streak at the end of May, which is where I assume the 0.310 or so would come from.
Ok, I'll admit I looked at the wrong column on ESPN's game log. Fair enough. However, his hits are generally ineffective and he lacks the ability to draw walks. OBP for him is severely lacking...during his "hot" stretch, it was still .292, which is incredibly weak and detrimental to any offense.
Some guy just called in to 610 saying, "you just can't win with any hitter like Everett in your lineup." Seriously, where the hell were these guys 14 months ago when the Astros won the NL pennant with AE at SS??? That's just baffling. Aside from all the other arguments about this lineup and now..the statement is just flat out wrong. And it's so on-its-face wrong it's silly...and the freaking show host doesn't even clue in to it. Where am I? We need some real baseball guys on sports radio. Particularly with as much Astros conversation that dominates...and with as many games as they play during the calendar year. Going with these jokers screaming for Zobrist and columnists who've alienated the team to the point where no one will talk to them to give them information just sucks.
There are 11 players in the NL with 100+ plate appearances as the 7th batter. The OBP average appears to be around .305 (corrected). Shawn Green is 1st at .378 and Scott Thorman is last at .222. Everett is 10th at .254.
That's pretty bad, even with Everett's recent "hot" streak. Not only that, but with Everett in the lineup you can't put someone like Luke Scott in the 7th hole. Luke Scott has a .333 OBP which is not good for a 6th hitter but in the top 3 for a 7th hitter.
Like Dumbass Justice yesterday saying, "to put it bluntly, some of the younger players can't stand Biggio." Hey, Dick: that wasn't "blunt", that was a cowardly half-bit of information. Who can't stand Biggio? And why? He's either blowing a ten-second confrontation out of proportion, all-out making **** up (where's Ric when you need him??), or he's putting something in his column he doesn't have permission to put there, and leaving out a name because of it. How about just reporting on baseball, Dick? Oh, that's right--because you don't know jack **** about baseball.
Who do you then put in the newly abandoned 6 hole? I've enjoyed the lineup the past few days, but I don't think I can stomach the "defense" for more than a week. I'd bet the pitchers don't enjoy it much, either--specifically Mr. Qualls the other night.
I didn't see it either, but I heard Zobrist Palilo (sp?) reading it on the radio yesterday evening. I try to protect myself nowadays from the Chronicle. I can read the same type of drivel here, but no one here is pretending to be professional journalists, and that makes it somehow a little more palatable.
