So far soo good, the bottom of the order was fine in AE's absence. I'm just glad it was AE that broke his leg and not Lee. I feel bad for the guy and don't with an injury on anyone. But if it was lee......
ESPN's web site does this fairly easy. Go here: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats...&pos=all&hand=a&league=nl&ageMin=17&ageMax=51 That should be a list of all #8 hitters with a minimum of 75 plate appearances in the NL. Ausmus is 2nd among that group with a .282 average.
Why don't you mention #7, where AE is dead last in the NL? At #6, Pence is tops. At #5, Scott is (surprisingly) about average. It's Biggio, Berkman, and Everett that have done poorly according to this metric.
I was only responding to the post where msn asked where to find the information that Buck referenced..... I don't think anyone here has been extolling Everett's offensive ability.
Because the bottom of the order is just about completely irrelevant? The Stros are 13th in leadoff OPS, 10th (!!!) in the 3-hole, and 12th from the 5 spot, yet people want to talk about AE & Ausmus. Very cornfusing.
Well, because they are the worst hitters. If you replace AE or Ausmus with a good hitter, then you can move Biggio to the 7 or 8 hole.
It's probably time to lay off Ausmus for a bit. Of all NL catchers with at least 150 plate appearances (there are 15 of them) he is 2nd in OBP and 6th in batting average.
Its crazy to think that you replace one of the worst bats ever (Everett) with something decent...and you start scoring runs and winning As long as Everett's bat isnt in the lineup, I can do without his defense. I hope he stays out forever...unless he decides to start hitting like a double A player.
No, it's crazy to assume that replacing Everett with Eric Bruntlett caused the wins when Mike Lamb and Lance Berkman, among others, have finally begun to hit the ball and produce runs.
I agree, I was just stirring the pot a little. But, if the Stros go on a long run and get back in this thing, Everett might have been Wally Pipped. DD
Loretta is getting the bulk at SS since Everett has been gone, not Eric... 3 games: 5-11, 3 runs, 3 rbi, 3 bb. Credit some of Lambs RBI chances as a result of having Loretta get on base. There is a trickle down effect when you take out such a weak link in the lineup, such as Everett...everyone benefits.
May 26-29 (4 games), Everett was 7-13, yet the Astros lost all 4 games. It helps when the team as a whole is getting 10+ hits a game.
Clearly. Lamb obviously started bashing the ball instead of batting 0.230 with no power for all of May because Mark Loretta was in the lineup.
You can pick and choose which games we lost when Everett hit decently, but I can choose a lot more games that we could have had a better chance of winning had Everett hit like a major leaguer. As I stated, you take out such a crappy bat and replace it with a major league bat and you have a trickle down effect that increases the potential of a few more bats in the lineup. Everett's defense is incredible...but his bat is so bad that removing him all together from the lineup would be the best thing for the team.
