when i was young and growing up in kingwood (northeast houston) we'd see all kinds of "wild" animals. i've seen coyote, skunks, bobcats, etc. of course, back then kingwood was very small and surrounded by vast amounts of woodlands/swamps.
Bolo Yeung faints. That sucker better have been all hepped up like the Monty Python flying killer kind of rabbit.
Haha - 10 years after me. My little brother was there though. I think he graduated in 2000. Red haired kid with mohawk that drove a 1955 chevy to school...
lol, you don't understand. i was just standing there trimming the grass and weeds, oblivous to anything happening around me b/c of the noise, and out of ****ing nowhere, this massive ball of fur jumps right over my feet. oh yea, i forgot. after the rabbit jumped out, about 10 seconds later, my dog came running from the back of the shed towards and scared the crap out of me too. yea, sounds pretty gay, but you had to be there.
not just yes. hell, yes. i've encountered 3 rattlesnakes around the home i grew up in out in west houston.
Sounds good. I usually "hang out" on fri nights. I'm too old for weeknights. I do go to Carlos' from time to time. 3rd Base was my hangout until my friend quit running the place and I get no more free beer. I also have my backyard patio bar. photo (it's in bad shape right now though and needs a new top- still works though)
About 6 years ago when I still lived with my parents, my uncle who lived in Porter at the time, told me about a friend of his that set loose a freakin' hyena somewhere near Huntsville on a deer lease. My dad never believed him but I did for some reason. Now that I think about it he was probably full of crap. I wonder if a hyena could survive in the wild here in Texas....
All four poisonous types of snakes in the US are found in our area (although, there are various breeds of rattlesnakes, and not all of them are found here). I came across a coral snake in Memorial park just a few weeks ago (no, it wasn't a king snake), and you don't see many of those.
About a month ago I saw two coyotes in the middle of the afternoon while I was running the trails over by the polo grounds. Surprised me for sure.
I have seen a coral once when I was a kid. (1980ish) in Cear Lake. Seen TONS of Water Moccasins but never a rattlesnake. I know that development of parts of Galveston County had to be stopped because it is so infested with rattlesnakes.
my mom tells me that right before hurricane carla, there was a mass exodus of snakes from the island to the mainland....ever heard that before?? EDIT: found this -- http://www.texasescapes.com/Cartoons/Hurriane-Carla-101805.htm http://blogs.chron.com/rita/archives/as_seen_on_tv/ His most vivid memories of that storm: "How quickly the snakes got to the high ground. As far as the eye could see, there were snakes.
An old boss of mine told me that during Carla there would be hundreds of rattlers together in "balls" swimming by them while there were in their boats. He said it was one of the craziest tings he ever saw. They would take their shotguns and just start blasting. (Just one more thing to look forward to if a major storm hits.)
No coyotes, but I saw a fox in my backyard in Baltimore the other day. I was just hanging on the deck and my dogs suddenly went crazy and I looked up and saw the fox running along the back fence line. I've also found a couple of dead possums in the back yard. Dogs got 'em. In my other house just outside of Baltimore we had a huge freakin' raccoon that lived in a hole in a tree in our backyard. We used to sit on the deck at dusk and watch it come rolling out of it's hole.
She is doing well. They life-flighted her and got her to the hospital insanely fast. She still has no fear of snakes, one tough little lady.
