While you made no money, you had food and shelter. That's better than starving with no place to stay. There's poverty with a roof and food. Then, there's poverty with nothing. I would rinse myself at the men's room sink and dry myself with paper towels. When I was 20, I would not eat for several days. When I did have solid food, I would vomit. When I made it to the shelter, I weighed in at 125 lbs, after losing 35 lbs.

Always had food...always had shelter... I lived in a house with no electricity or hot water for a year. Used to walk several miles to the now defunct Northshore Dollar Theater and would watch anything for a couple hours in AC. In retrospect the time would have been better spent pounding the pavement for a job that worked me more hours.
