Having Dwight walk out on the Lakers for the Rockets would be unreal.

    **** the Lakers.

I'm curious what is the correlation between ORB% and FG% for the teams he looked at. Because I have a hunch that teams who don't shoot the ball well will strategically crash the offensive glass harder. So, the lack of a positive correlation between ORB% and ORTG may be because offensive rebounding teams tend to be poor in another area like shooting rather than offensive rebounding just not being helpful.

This just in: Houston once again used as leverage to send Howard to BKN in a S&T.

Remember all that "I will just sign with Dallas if not traded" talk used to force a trade?

Then again, maybe this time we will also benefit again from the "we must do what we say" provision (a.l.a Sam Presti/James Harden). Lakers call Howard's bluff and Howard actually signs with Houston.

    ;)

    That's interesting.

A perfect example would be the Bulls I think.

According to Woj, it could happen.

His sources say that Howard values winning over geography and marketing opportunities.

I'm sure Howard will judge all three. I don't know why anyone thinks he'll just look at the money and consider nothing else. In the end if the Rockets continue to rise and the Lakers continue to fall he's going to want to come here.

It's not like we are the Timberwolves.

I know Dwight has a zillion dollars but I think 30 million bucks would be hard to give up.

    That will be hilarious.

Remember the Rockets as superheroes pic thread at the beginning of the season? The one with Parsons as Doctor Manhattan, Lin as The Batman, D-Mo as Superman, Jones as Ironman, and White as Wolverine (Spiderman Lamb gone for Harden)? It came with a companion pic of Howard as Robin on the outside looking to get in.

    :)

Not if you are putting winning first then that one extra year is much easier to turn down.

I doubt Dwight wants to be part of a rebuilding project when he is 29-30 years old when Kobe decided to call it quits.

    But we already have Asik?

So what sigh and trade when we don't need to? I mean wouldn't it be better to sign ANOTHER max player as well as keeping Asik instead of trading Asik for a max player and another scrub?

So we have a defensive beast at the 5 responsible for defense only and LMA at the 4.
With Parsons and Lin being the developing 3rd star/s and Harden being the no. 1 superstar? I mean that's a beastly team right there and I guess it could happen.

Is basketball even important to this diva? Does he want to play basketball or does he want to wear leather capris pants, with lens free glasses, and take pictures with jigga man?

I was a strong advocate of trading for dwight last year, and thought strongly about our chances to retain his services. I thought he woould not walk away from the extra 30million. i thought for sure we were going to obtain him because we had the best package, or so it seemed.

But now that i take a step back and observe this all, i just dont know what howard will do. i dont think anyone, including dwight, knows what dwights gonna do. He does want to be liked alot, he does want to be in a big market, he does want to get the most money.

I thought money was his far and away his biggest priority, but i think his injury and the devastating season the lakers are having, has humbled him a little bit and made him take a step back and re-assess his prioritiesand what he wants to do.

I think he'll look at what LA offers, which is alot. i still hold them as the highest to sign him this off-season. They have the most money to offer. the biggest market to offer(unless a SnT with Brooklyn somehow becomes realistic). And they have the most talented team(although they are declining and on the last leg).

i see LA as the veterans primo destination, a place to sign and contend and hopefully win a ring in two-three years. but to start your own brand in your prime going forward the future looks bleak. you have to be kobes sidekick, which doesnt look like dwight likes. and the roster is gonna continue to get worse year by year because they are old and declining. they also have no assets to rebuild, aka draft ppicks and young potential studs. If dwight smartens up, he may realize this and say no thanks.

atlanta is a possibility, even if he says he desires not to play there. its his hometown. they can offer the max, and retain his besty j-smoov. they would than have a legit trade chip in horford, along with theyre own and our 1st rd pick. although they're market is a tad smaller and the brand isnt as big.

Dallas, i just dont see it. back when dwill and dwight were both expiring andcould sign together dallas was ideal. because they had the cap space and a top stretch4 in dirk. now? they have an injured and old dirk, and not much else. they offer a better market but not by much.

Houston to me would be the most likely team to sign him if he were to legitamately leave LA. we have a big market and a strong influence in china. we have a young star superfriend to build and shape the team around together. we would than have trade assets in asik+multiple young players to obtain another player.

I dont see him leaving LA tho. i think in the offseason they will trade gasol(for pennys on the dollar, potentially to houston as he would become a LARGE expiring that morey would love). they will possibly fire dantoni and maybe hire the zhen master phil to try and corrall the egos together and win.

I think this is right. He's essentially throwing away the rest of his prime on crappy teams if he stays in LA. That's why I think no matter what happens, Howard walks on the Lakers.

nice analysis... btw this team will grow into a serious contender even if done nothing and only left to play together for another 1-3 years....

just imagine quality of harden's game in a 3 years time...

and thats without another max player and without all improvement quite possible by Asik, Lin, Parsons, Patterson, dmo, moris, jones, white etc....

If marketed properly, can Dwight latch on to the Jeremy Lin popularity train to become more of a global marketing presence? I think so.

As is, I don't view Dwight as a huge marketing machine currently.

And it's hard to see the Lakers ever becoming great if he resigns there.

Unless he (1) just can't give up what will be more money (not as much as it seems given the tax, cost of living, etc. differences, but still a lot and an extra year of guaranteed salary), or (2) he loves loves loves LA (and he's increasingly becoming persona non-grata there it seems), why would he resign with the Lakers?
