Even if we have the worst record, do you honestly believe we'll get the top pick?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Plowman, Jan 21, 2023.

?

Even if we have the worst record, do you honestly believe we'll get the top pick?

  1. Yes. And, I still believe in Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny.

  2. No - It's rigged. Too much talent here already.

  3. Maybe, maybe not...I don't know. But it's not rigged.

I think the following questions would be more interesting, if say Rockets got the first pick,

1a. Will Silas still be our coach?
1b. Can Wemby immune from the "Silas's disease"?
    2. Will TIlman officially name his son as the GM?
    3. Will Sengun be traded for a box of Ferrero Rocher?

Gonna go back and read the rest of your post, just wanted to point out that the term conspiracy theory has been around a lot longer than 9/11...

I just reacted when I saw that because I know we've been using the term "conspiracy theory" most of my life (born in 1963)...

Here's an interesting read on it:

The popularity of the word grew more so especially when others challenged why that third building crumbled the same way the other two fell and it didn't get hit by no planes or nothing at all

it is still a CIA created term to do what I mentioned in my reply

I Am subject to error and immediate correction

When you hear the term conspiracy theory, its just a code word for truth or being very near that ballpark of it, nothing more nor less

But it is also a deflection term so it can make those speaking truth look crazy or silly because the sheeple believe whatever they are told and don't question nothing, it was a Op ie. theater of war which been going on at least since the 1940's, look that up and post the link

I would share more info but I don't feel like going into the archives

When you say alot longer I think of 3000 yrs ago, 50 or 60 yrs ago or whenever the CIA club was created is not that long ago at all, very modern indeed

I didn't take it as dispute, just trading dialogue, they remixed 9/11 and gave it to us in a new format called Covid 19, next on deck is Monkey pox

See how the conspiracy theory is perpetual?

Agreed, that is how it feels! But -- we'd have to have, like, hundreds of years of lottery results for actual random result totals to begin to closely approximate the odds -- that is how randomness works. Flip hundreds of coins, write down all the results, and it is amazing how many seemingly meaningful LONG streaks of heads or tails you'll get, but over time it all begins to approximate the actual 50/50 odds (not factoring in imbalanced coins etc.) Even ten or twenty years of the worst record not getting the top pick wouldn't change the odds of the next year's worst team getting the top pick -- it would still be 14% (if we stick with this lottery format).

    Etc., blah blah blah.

Patrick Ewing to NY seemed rigged to me, and the Pelicans trading AD to LA then jumping up 7 spots in the lottery to get the #1 overall pick while the Lakers also jumped up 7 spots to 4th is pretty convenient

Same odds as rolling two dice and getting snake eyes….not likely at all.

23 draft will be stacked you're gonna get some good talent with a top 3 pick anyway even if not wemby. worst teams this season ain't gonna finish the draft empty handed guaranteed. every team wants wemby but I think he would develop best in san antonio.

I think it actually could have been rigged during the Ewing draft. I mean, back then, they were still showing the Finals on tape delay. It's gotten far too big. Plus, they have the accounting firms involved. The NBA doesn't necessarily need those stars in the big cities. The individual players want to be there because of the endorsement deals, so there's a good chance they are going to end up in large markets, anyway. No reason for the NBA to rig it.

Those coincidences with the Lakers and Pelicans are the things that lead to conspiracy theories. Some are easier to believe than others.

I find it hilarious that people actually believe the NBA would rig the lottery to get their star talents to Detroit, Orlando, Charlotte or San Antonio over Houston.

Maybe once upon a time the NBA might have gotten away with it (Ewing) but with all of todays information flow, people involved, and lack of real suspicious results there's just no logical reason to think it happens besides tin foil hat nonsense. People want to point to few isolated incidents that would seemingly benefit the league, instead of the hundreds of lottery results that don't.

If you finish with the worst record 3 years straight, you still don't have a 50% chance of scoring even one top pick. People don't understand how math works. We have a 1/7 chance of getting the top pick.
