Even if we have the worst record, do you honestly believe we'll get the top pick?

Discussion in 'Houston Rockets: Game Action & Roster Moves' started by Plowman, Jan 21, 2023.

?

Even if we have the worst record, do you honestly believe we'll get the top pick?

  1. Yes. And, I still believe in Santa Claus & the Easter Bunny.

  2. No - It's rigged. Too much talent here already.

  3. Maybe, maybe not...I don't know. But it's not rigged.

    The problem is that you believe you sound educated; you actually sound quite profoundly stupid. There's no "truth" in anything you're speaking, just blind paranoia. But sure carry on believing you own some intellectual superiority, most of you conspiracy nuts wouldn't know the truth if it slapped you in the face with a wet kipper.

    I don't know if its been said in this thread but since the new lottery weighting no team with the worst record has gotten the #1 pick.

    I mean you can try it in the tankathon thing and see for yourself, do it 10x a day and see how often the Rockets get it. Truth is, it's a 14% chance to get it, period, end of story, which means its really not that great of a chance.

    We will be fortunate to just be drafting in the top 3 again, having the worst record only assures you of a top 5 pick nowadays so at least we know we'll be drafting top 5 I guess.

    Erudition is not education, just because I shared couple gems which doesn't mean nothing

    You were the one who replied using what you were taught talking about silly stuff like Rothschild / Conspiracy Theory and saying I need to seek help

    So I corrected your silly reply and you are still butthurt about it, get over it or dont, its your free will

    You must think my replies are superior, I just called them erudite based on doing the knowledge of what I shared with you

    Now go play, we buzy

    I unfortunately agree lol.

    Not because of the FO or coach, that's a whole other thing but...

    He has to look at this team and wonder where and how he will fit. I mean I know the Rockets will make him fit but yeah on paper he has to wonder if he's going to be fighting to get up shots on this team.

    With that said, out of the top 5 teams we are the biggest market. I really don't think that matters, Wemby can be an international star playing in Charlotte, but players still seem to think the market matters and hey we can always remind him that he can work with Hakeem?

    It's funny all the other times Rockets fans claim that the league favors the big market teams, then when we're the biggest market team tanking the league has some other reason to rig the game.

    The Rockets have more facebook followers than Orlando, San Antonio, Charlotte and Detroit COMBINED. We would be Adam Silver's most profitable choice so this time I really hope I hear a little less about how it was rigged against us.

    It's clearly not rigged, why bother rigging when the maximum chance is just 14%?

    Not our fault that Stone went for his 'obvious lotto draft choices' that are forking raw.

    Having suffered through the Yao years and seeing what's happening with Zion and AD, I'm not sure I want Wembenyama. 82 games plus the playoffs is a lot of stress on a body that large. Give me Scoot.

    https://www.nba.com/news/nba-draft-lottery-explainer

    The actual lottery procedure will take place in a separate room just before ESPN’s national broadcast. Select media, NBA officials and representatives of the participating teams and the accounting firm Ernst & Young will be in attendance for the drawings.

    Fourteen ping-pong balls numbered 1 through 14 will be placed in a lottery machine. There are 1,001 possible combinations when four balls are drawn out of 14, without regard to their order of selection. Before the lottery, 1,000 of those 1,001 combinations will be assigned to the 14 participating lottery teams. The lottery machine is manufactured by the Smart Play Company, a leading manufacturer of state lottery machines throughout the United States. Smart Play also weighs, measures and certifies the ping-pong balls before the drawing.

    The drawing process occurs in the following manner: All 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine and they are mixed for 20 seconds, and then the first ball is removed. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team that has been assigned that combination will receive the No. 1 pick. The same process is repeated with the same ping-pong balls and lottery machine for the second through fourth picks.

    If the same team comes up more than once, the result is discarded and another four-ball combination is selected. Also, if the one unassigned combination is drawn, the result is discarded and the balls are drawn again. The length of time the balls are mixed is monitored by a timekeeper who faces away from the machine and signals the machine operator after the appropriate amount of time has elapsed.

    Peter Rosenbaum, a partner at Ernst & Young, oversees the entire lottery process and stuffs and seals the envelopes before bringing them to the studio for the broadcast. The announcement of the lottery results will be made by NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum. A second representative from each participating team will be seated on stage. Neither the Deputy Commissioner nor the team representatives on stage will be informed of the lottery results before the envelopes are opened. The team whose logo is in the last envelope opened will have the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, which will be held on Thursday, June 23 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

    TLDR:
    * Select reps from teams are present in the drawing. Some media as well.
    * They physically measure the balls.
    * There is a timekeeper between the draws.
    * Audited by E&Y

    The link has a video of last year's ball picks. 8:50 mark is Rockets.... I shed a small tear. Please pan out Jabari.

    No, which is precisely why I hate seeing the Rockets have the worst record. Imagine being the worst team 3 years straight and not getting a number 1 pick. For whatever reasons it feels like you have better odds if you’re not the number 1 pick even though theyre the same odds.

    2022
    1st ping pong ball drawing for #1 pick
    14, 1,13, 6 => Orlando

    2nd ping pong ball drawing for #2 pick
    2, 7, 14, 9 => OKC

    3rd ping pong ball drawing for #3 pick
    1, 12, 6, 3 => Houston

    4th ping pong ball drawing for #4 pick
    2,10, 1, 12 => Houston (Rockets again, but discarded, since we got 3rd already)

    #retry
    4, 7, 9, 10 => Sacramento

    -----
    #if we didn't get 3rd looks like ODDs on that day would have granted us a 4th pick.

    New Orleans owns the right to swap with LA totally unprotected.

    Their lottery pick is going to the Pelicans.
