I think there are very diverse populations in several European countries and they actually have significant immigration issues. the comparisons in the study compared individual US state economies to account for size of country comparisons. There is some interesting points in the study from a European perspective.
I think that is a very good point and as far as I know the EU hasn't made health care uniform across the union. I have been thinking that giving the diversity of the states here in the US that it might be better to leave it up to the States individually to decide on how they want to run health care with funding from the US. This obviously has its own problems but could address different attitudes and make up of the different states. For instance the health care situation in CA is probably very different than in KY.
That's true. But that was also over 200 years ago, and since then the US has managed to develop it's own problems anyway. Yes, but from what I see, there are people in America who actually advocate acting upon the Europhobia while the Amerophobia is just sort of a joke.
hey, there he is again. the guy with the swedish wife that thinks he knows everything. how 'bout a little back up, brah?
He was asking for another poster to provide proof of their assertion. How is it on him to prove anything?
I personally think Europhobia in the US is just as silly as Americaphobia in Europe. Most of it must be from people who either haven't been to the respective "other" place at all or who choose to be ignorant because it serves some other purpose, or both.
Medicare and VA are single-payer healthcare systems that have been operating in the USA for several decades. they have been among the most efficient, well-run, healthcare systems in the world.
Granted, my sample size has been small but the poor here in Sweden is nothing like the poor in America. You don't see any homeless. You don't see anyone doing without. Do people have less on the whole? Absolutely but I personally don't see that as a negative at all. What I've seen is that people here are content. They are content with their smaller homes and one (or no) car. They are content to ride their bikes and walk everywhere. They are content to take care of each other. I've never heard anyone complain about how their tax money provides medical care, college for everyone, and care for the elderly. I've seen a people that are ensured time to spend with their kids not only when they are born but when they are older because they get vacation and are encouraged to take it. People hear live lives that are so foriegn to anything American that it is dumbfounding. Americans could learn a lot from the way people live here and it isn't something that can be measured by how much money the rich or poor have. I think the reason that so many in America want Americans to hate Europeans and socialism is because if they ever knew the way people live over here, there would be a revolt not seen since the French Revolution. I don't think it is something that you can see when you come over here for vacation or if you come over here to work because you probably aren't seeing how real people live day in and day out. I know it isn't perfect over here but I also know that it is definitely much closer to the way I think people should live life.
What exactly am I trying to prove? Everything that I have ever stated has come from my own personal experience. It isn't like I just make **** up. We live in Houston but we spend quite a bit of time over here every year. Enough time that we plan on buying a home here within the next couple of years. During this time I get to see how people live and hear what they think about their system. I do get touchy when people make stupid ass statements about things that they have no idea what they are talking about because it's personal. These people are my family and probably more than that, I used to be one of the stupid American's that ran my mouth about **** that I knew nothing about. I just knew what I was supposed to think and the garbage that we've been force fed from birth. Luckily, I have had the opportunity to see the difference.
America was also founded on one basic principle.... that all men are created equal. Rich or poor, a man would not be denied treatment for smallpox. THe only thing that's scary is that they think football is played with a round ball. And that according to VH1 popup video, during 99 red baloons, Women dont shave their underarms as much as the western world.
The problem with French people living longer is that they have to spend those extra years in France. Boom. You're roasted.
Good points and I agree that a simpler lifestyle is much better than the consumer driven greed of our debt economy. Personally from my limited knowledge of people in the Scandinavian regions the quality of life is very nice, at least I would think so. I think in the more industrialized nations Germany, Great Britain and France not so much. Another point is that Europe has over a thousand years of history over the US and the social democracies of today are pretty much more stable and developed than the monarchies and revolutions that spawned them. US history is packed with individualism, privatization and greed... so in fairness the US is not moving away from Monarchy, the US is moving away from privatization towards statism. I do believe that there are alot of people who would like to see Europe's model of social democracy here and I for one don't think our brand is going to look like yours. It is nice where you live because you are comfortable. Over here everyone wants to define comfortable for themselves. Lowering our standard of living in the US to be comparable to Europe is not something in itself that is going to make our economy and culture European. I believe that the most die hard liberal American and conservative Americans both think that the national debt is going to be taken care of somehow without any severe consequences. Our slide into socialism might not stop at any European model. We may find our end play to be much different. I for one don't worry about it. I live like I'm in Sweden already. Pretty laid back and happy with my life.
Look it's not that hard to understand. Get Forbes, count the world's wealthiest 500. Notice how only a pitiful few Europeans are on that list? Many rich Europeans don't make that list because they don't get the high quality health care they deserve. They are basically sentenced by some form of socialist death panels. The smart ones that do survive get their treatment in the US. Our system is what save these poor souls. The European system will collapse very soon due to reduced tax revenue from the dying upper class. Don't forget they pay ridiculous high tax and still can't even afford some basic military. I have seem it. You don't have to look far because it's already happening to Canada.
Wow did you actually write that? Man that is just harsh and sad. Ofcourse what you wrote before you showed your true collors (important people) also isn't true, people do not just die here as a result of health care. But I'm pretty sure you are either being sarcastic or are just an act. Maybe you are really a left winged who is trying to make the right winged people look stupid. Why exactly, pppbigppp made an claim, Master baiter just asked him if he has proof for this, which he obvious doesn't (since it is not true), otherwise he would have given it by now. Why would the burden of proof be on MB? Ofcourse the system is different in the US as it is here, maybe the US is more focussed on making money. In most European countries we have uch more vacation time than people in the US have (I do not say all European countries because of soe i just do not know how much vacation time they get). I love the life we live here, and wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm not sure if trying to make more money should be the most important thing in your life.
^^^^ The other problem with Europeans is that they don't understand satire. Attention everyone: If we socialize medicine, government doctors will come in and remove everyone's sense of humor like they've done in The Netherlands.
