Seems like the tide is turning almost globally, while EU leaders and US leaders keep floating/drifting to the right of this issue along with some Americans and fewer Europeans. In this light, one can see that the US governments threats to EU leaders to reject the Palestinian statehood bid is in reality a threat to disobey its own people's wishes.

I hope the Israeli leaders are monitoring the situation and keep the interests of all their citizens at heart. If Israelis are to live in peace and security, then they must seek to be a part of the international community rather than threatning Palestinians over a statehood bid. In case you missed it, Israel threatened Palestinians with one of the possibilities being overthrowing Mahmoud Abbas, the more peaceful half in the West Bank which does not launch rockets and is incredibly tolerant of illegal Israeli settlement activity.

As uncontroversial as this statement may sound, the constant shift in global opinion, the fall of Bashar and self-sufficiency in oil will likely end the cult-like allegiance to Israel displayed by US and EU politicians. Whenever that may be, Israelis need to ensure that they are not totally dependent on the US/EU for their safety because one day they will have to live with their neighbours. To appease the bigots and xenophobes I will say yes obviously I also think its neighbours should take steps towards safety and security.

 

ATW has his opinion but it's important to note that in relation to Israel he is considered right-wing in Germany, although not extreme right.

Here is an interesting article regarding German views of Israel. I would take the statements with a grain of salt, although if you look at polls conducted over the last decade, it is true that Germans are growing more and more weary of supporting Israel, and more critical of their government's staunch support as well.

By neighbours I meant the other countries in the region.

I appease the bigots and xenophobes because they are the only people who typically ask why I don't denounce the regional neighbours in a thread about Israel - so wanted to get that reactionary exchange out of the way by acknowledging that work is needed by other regional countries as well even though this thread is not about those countries.
