What a load of baloney.....he had one year....hardly ANYONE comes in from Europe and is an instant success. V-Span had enough talent....he just needed time on the court to develop. DD
And we've seen two straight pretty good coaches not want to waste in game minutes developing an inexperienced backup point guard. Thankfully, Aaron Brooks hasn't yet whined or taken his ball and gone home.
Just the ones that are successful, like Tony Parker (at age 18), Luis Scola, Ginobili, Pau Gasol...etc. Hell even Beno Udrih was Bob Cousy next to V-Can't.
Lots of em became successful after a couple of years in the league.....just like most NBA rookies.... If V-Span comes back to the right team he will be successful. By the way Beno is a great example of a player that was in a bad situation, didn't fit his game and got to a better situation and has proven that he is an NBA player. Thanks for making my point. DD
You're wrong, as usual. Most NBA rookies aren't successful after a couple years. Most NBA rookies are out of the league within a couple of years and are never heard from again - just like Spanoulis. WHy do you think the average NBA career is only about 4 years? ANd the players I noted were successful in their first seasons - not abject failures like Spanoulis, who was monumentally hopeless. He is on the right team now - in the barnyard league. And that is where he will stay - I guarantee it. He's not physically or mentally good enough for the NBA. No, thanks for making mine. Cause you're wrong again. Like I said before, Udrih as a rookie was an absolute world-beater compared to the pathetic performance that V-Can't put up. 2004 Udrih Stats per 36 min. 14.8 pts .444 FG .408 3pt 4.7 apg 2.4 TO 3.0 PF 14.3 PER Spanoulis Stats per 36 min: 11.2 pts .319 FG .172 3PT 3.7 APG 3.9 TO 4.4 PF 5.4 PER That's a pretty good season for a rookie - in fact vastly superior to Spanoulis overall and in every meaningful category. Spanoulis' season was INCREDIBLY bad by any measure. Which is why he isn't an NBA player.
VSpan was terrible. A turnover machine who couldn't shoot. He did hustle, though...I'll give him that. People who say JVG ruined him are ridiculous. The guy is making millions and is supposed to be able to handle the day in, day out rigors of an NBA schedule and a mean coach ruins him? Sounds like a total wuss to me...
I heard Spanoulis' incredible performance was rewarded with a contract extension upping him to ten additional goats per year through 2010 - I heard Mike Batiste agreed to restructure his deal and forfeit a lamb to make it work - looks like we won't be seeing him in the NBA anytime soon.
