I'd have to look at the numbers specifically, and after being subject to 80 mph winds and a blown fence in the DFW area, I'm not in the mood to... But the calculation of PER isn't an isolated calculation, it's normalized to pace and league averages. Otherwise certain eras would dominate the numbers simply because they scored more or something.
"you rocket fans" get the f out of here and stop posting if you are not a rocket fan what's worse is that stupid "cool" smilie you put on the end of that statement...like "oh, I really showed them". and Hakeem wanted to leave and wanted a lot more money than he was worth at that point. If you WERE a rockets fan (and are old enough), you would know that this city has always shown Hak nothing but love...and still does to this day.
We were truly blessed to have been able to witness the greatest big man of all time...Hakeem will always be the definition of a true champion and teammate...We should all be grateful to have had the chance to watch him play...i just hope we can experience something similar with Yao.. Chilcutt
Hakeem had his rough times in Houston, notably in the late 80's at one point the Chron was making jokes about him hiding in a Lakers bag because he supposedly wanted to get traded to L.A. But I don't think any player has a perfect love affair with a city. In the end, it was a shame Hakeem wanted to go to Toronto. But the Rockets couldn't give him a 3 year deal when he was clearly done. The reason he left was because he wanted a 3 or 4 year deal and the Rockets were only offering 1 or 2. Hakeem never played more than a season more and was just a shadow of his former self in Toronto. He was done but his pride didn't let him accept it. I'd expect no less from a man with so much heart.
Actually, I was wondering how they can give a PER for Mikan at all without any stats on blocks, steals, or turnovers.
They place a "guesstimate" value for any players whose values weren't kept. Same is true for pace calculations. PER values pre-1979 are going to vary based upon what the estimates whoever calculates them puts for these values in the formula.
Gosh I miss having Hakeem the Dream as a Rocket. He is and always will be the face of basketball in the city of Houston. The guy was everything you could have asked of a big man and more.
Dream is my all time favorite player in college or NBA period! And yet....I am an RFF and always will be. I have a hard time stomaching the YOF's or the TOF's. I love Big E, Mo, Dream and all of the Rockets but its still team first. When Mo went to Philly it hurt but the Rockets were still number 1!
