I volunteered at the United Way in high school and you'd be shocked at how much (or little) of your donation gets to people. the united way is pretty good but 10-20% is very common overhead and some "charities" give away less than 50 cents on the dollar. yao covering the administrative costs will add up to thousands and thousands over the years. after katrina and 9/11 it's depressing to think how much money has been mishandled or scammed on both ends ...

every part of yao's plan for his charity outlaid is class, it's very transparent so you can see where your money is going. that's great. way to go yao.

What's their 'involvement' there? Can you elaborate since you seem to know a lot about it?

Oh, my mistake, I have fallen into your lame attempt to make this a D&D thread again. Know what? A human tragedy has just happened there and ten of thousands of people has lost their lives or their families. This thread is to commend our Rockets player for his efforts to help the victims there. Why you are trying to drag this into another pissing contest is beyond me.

Did you question Kobe's stance in the Iraq war when he played the charity game for the Katrina victims?

You are obviously a Yao-hater based on your posts before. So I can understand it pains you enormously to see so many people give compliments to Yao for his efforts to help the earthquake victims of the human tragedy there.

Many professional athletes have tried to avoid getting involved in political issues. Yao is not the first and let me surprise you here by telling you for sure that he won't be the last one. So why did you single Yao out? Do you know that Lebron James also refused to comment on that issue? What have you said about Lebron then? Please give me the link since I don't recall you have said anything about it.

Also, like DaRock has pointed out, it's not the first time that a basketball player has devoted his money and time to a charity effort without making a comment on a unrelated political event. What have you said about those other players before. Did you also go around to diss the players when they played the game to raise funds for the Katrina victims? Why didn't you do it back then but you are doing it now here? So it comes down to this same question: Why do you single Yao Ming out?

actually alot of players that are known to be "thugs" give out many money to charity. just the other day i read the list of things carmelo anthony did... i was suprized.

all players have issue. some issue are known to the public, some are not. it is not right to say, oh yao is much better, look at the amount of money he's given. it's not to right bash players for their issue (off the court)

was anyone really suprized of this news? we all know yao would give out alot, it's just the kind of person he is.

    slow down. relax. calm down.

    It was a simple question.

I commend Yao on his charity efforts. Good for him and the world.

Kenny Smith made it a point to tell people that Charles Barkley donates alot of money to charity and his community in Alabama, he just never talks about it. Besides his donations to Vegas, no one ever talks about his other donations.

Kenny is heavily involved in helping Katrina victims.

    Kenny makes me proud!
