You need to take this communist crap somewhere else. We're only interested in Rockets Basketball here.

Mercy? So where is this guy then? He "disappeared" after being arrested by the communist government. Is this the "Chinese" mercy - showing sympathy in front of the world and then execute you secretly?

Let me extract an interview Yao done with "Eastern Morning Post" to ease the atmoshpere here a bit...

Here is the link and I would try to translate just one question, see if PRYUEN has time to complete the whole interview.

    QUOTE
    2006-4-27 Eastern Morning Post
    Reporter: Zhao Jing
    Editor: Peng Chang

EMP: If you cannot play in WC, will you consider other ways to help the team, say being a consultant or follow the team to Japan and cheer them on?

Yao: Probably, but that's up to the coach's decision, it's his job. I personally want to go to Japan very much, even if I could not play. I want to cheer my teamates on, but the prerequisite is, that would not occupy a roster spot.

    UNQUOTE

I apologize for my poor English.

It sounds that Yao is not that urge to play in the WC tournament and he accepted to play some other role to participate. What do you think?

There are some other interesting questions asked in the interview, I'll leave them to PRYUEN.

I'm glad to hear Yao is healing faster than expected. It's good for the Chinese fans as well as us Rockets fans. I have nothing against China. They have tons of cute babes over their!

    it's like a drama...

when yao got injuried in a pointless game jvg was labled as more vicious than a capitalist by one chinese bbs'er and criticized by many more. now after this news someone started to question team yao's decision and possible cnt's pressure...

It makes me feel disgusted that the hatred towards China/Chinese pops up once a while. Just ask you a question, has any Chinese fan here ever initiated racial stuff against American? Instead, we see the comments about YOF, communist ... over and over, on a basketball board.

Please, people, at least show some respect.

I finally clicked on this thread. Please don't move it to D&D... we have enough junk down there already. Give the thread a merciful death. At the rate this thing is going, it'd be locked in D&D anyway.

I'm glad he's healing quickly, just hope he doesn't try to rush back, simple as the for me. I have no problm with him playing just as long as he's as close to 100% as possible.

If he can play let him play shoot. It's up to him and his personal team. I know we are all Rockets fans, but damn...Yao has his loyalties/priorities too, and some of them lie with his home country, imagine that.

More bullsh1t anti-China propaganda, what else is new. Disappeared how? Considering that people don't even know who he was. Even "pro-democracy students" who defected to the US acknowledged they didn't know who he was. Those that do (and indeed, those that helped him disappear into the crowd) refuse to speak his name.

Furthermore, I'd like to see if you actually have any proof of such "disappearance acts" in China. Last time I checked, dogs like Wang Dan, Wei Jingshen, et al, sat in jail for about 10 years before being sent to the US. Everybody knew exactly where they were. Others such as Chai Ling was sitting on a plane to the US after proclaiming "we want a sea of blood," indicating that she already had met with the CIA/Mi6 prior to the incident and already knew she could get out of the country. Not exactly disappearing.

In other words, you are a moron.

Take this crap to D&D. How many times do you have to be reminded? This is the Rockets forum.

Put it all in this thread, which I hope will serve as the all purpose diversion thread for these topics:

Gee Sam, I don't know if you noticed, but this thread is already derailed far before I came in. In fact, given our history, you derailed far more threads than I have. So I do find it hilarious that you sit on your high horse and accuse me of doing so.

I suggest we stick to pruyen's "Official thread about Yao's summer activities" for all information about Yao and just lock this thread. Based from all I have read (both in Chinese and English media), pruyen has pretty accurate translation and I think he has done a find job of filtering out some garbage articles in Chinese media already.

When it comes to information of Yao, Chinese media is a better source if you don't mind doing some filtering yourself or you have fans like pruyen who already do the work for you.

Alright, since people here trust Sina so much, here's an interesting article:

    http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2006-04-28/01122185121.shtml

Where Zhang Mingji essentially denied that he gave any indication whether Yao will be ready for the World Championship, essentially in response to the ESPN article.

The relevant portion include that when asked by the "Morning Paper" regarding Yao's status folllowing reading the Reuters article (posted on ESPN), Zhang said that he never said Yao would certainly make it to the WC in August or that Yao will recover by the end of June, although he did confirm saying that Yao is recovering well.

Note, it is Sina so take it with a grain of salt.

So is ESPN full of **** or is Sina full of ****? I'd tend to think both, both in this case I think it's ESPN. No, perhaps ESPN didn't outright lie, but they certainly took things out of context and expressed it in a way in which showed that Team Yao wants to force the big guy to play.

This SHOULD put this ridiculous issue to bed once and for all as well as shed some light on the credibility of American media, though I think some posters here would conveniently ignore this tidbit.
