Matt Thomas was mentioning that his preference would be to go after Cutler in the offseason. With some cap management, it could be done. He was also saying that Cutler, behind a competent OLine, would be much, much better than anything else we could get behind center (including Bridgewater). And keep in mind, 2015 will have 10 million of dead money freed up just from Schaub, so it could be entirely possible to bring in Cutler.

Im not a huge fan of Cutler, but many of his downfalls over the last few years have been the result of the worst offensive line play in the NFL. Give him time and he can do some good with the ball...at least, I wont have to hear the stupid "noodle arm" comments around here.

Pass on Cutler. Titans can have him.

Lawrence Taylor never had any motivation issues. The partying is okay for a football player that plays once a week. The lack of heart and desire is a real problem though.

Draft your QB, develop them, get it over with. If not Bridgewater, then trade down and select someone else, but don't try to beat the system, that's how we got Schaub.

Nah, when you reach, that's how you wind up stuck with Gabbert, Manuel, Ponder, Geno Smith, etc... those guys all went way too soon. It was obvious. Unfortunately, taking a guy early doesn't magically make him better.

Don't really see how getting Schaub was "beating the system". They implemented an offense, one that Schaub did very well in, had a chance to do some real damage from 2009-2012, with 2011 being the best chance (and happened to be the Schaub injury year).

The key in that regime is that they eventually got all the pieces in place to run the vision of the offense that was desired... until the league caught up with it (which always happens, no matter how "dynamic" an offense is).

With a new regime coming in, picking a QB first and then trying to get everything else, could end up very much like the Carr years... unless they get an absolute "can't miss" franchise QB that makes everybody better no matter who is out there.

I wish I knew enough about Bridgewater to say he is or isn't that guy... but chances are, he isn't (simply because there aren't a lot of those guys out there).

First there is no such thing as a can't miss. Everyone has the potential to fail. It's just an odds thing. Based on the past you try to predict the future. If a player has size speed accuracy and wins against top competition then he is likely to do it at the next level.

But there are always exceptions Russell Wilson had everything except size so he dropped. The odds were wrong in his case. Teddy Bridgewater has it all. He has depicted as a taller Wilson. Imagine that. But he hasn't played against the best competition so he doesn't meet the formula.

He hasn't played against the best competition so he isn't the best prospect. Not worthy of the 1st pick. But that is just stupid to rule him out. You have to look at what he does. I have and what I say is a great prospect. I would compare him to Andrew Luck. Just look at film of both.

Yes Luck is bigger and has a slightly stronger but Bridgewater is just as accurate and better in the pocket. Plus he is a better runner albeit he rarely runs. That's the other thing, his footwork allows him to avoid sacks and stay in the pocket longer. Just watch the video on Luck and Bridgewater. I just randomly picked a video on Luck against good competition.

If Schaub's good numbers were a product of the system... Imagine if we had a legit, franchise qb.

    Peter King:

Manziel will be a first round pick. (Speculated top ten to Jacksonville.)

Fastest riser is Blake Bortles. Spoke to a team with a top ten pick(or likely), they like him better than any QB in this draft.

It will all be proven (or disproven) in the combine.

Frankly, most NFL teams could probably care less as to what the college guys do in the actual college games... they'll run them through the real "test" this spring, and if he measures out as well as the highlights look, they'll take him.

If all the knocks against him are true (small hand size, feathery-thin weight with only average speed)... then he will drop in the draft.

Whoever thinks Bortles is the best QB in this draft is on drugs! His arm is about as weak Matt Schaubs.

Anyone can look at him and see he is not 195. He has a solid upper body. As for hand size that's just stupid to even bring it up. He didn't wear gloves in high school and never fumbled once. He wore gloves all of college and only lost 2 fumbles total in 3 years. He throws with the most accuracy of all the elite QB's mentioned. The football is the same size High School, college and the NFL. It's not getting bigger and hands haven't got any smaller since High School.

I don't know why people can't see how good this QB is. It's just so obvious. Maybe some see the color of his skin and think he can't do the things he does. He is a very cerebral QB with athleticism. He is fearless and mature beyond his years.

He is not as polished as an Andrew Luck and wasn't born with the QB pedigree having grown up poor even talking living in his Mom's car. But he has improved every year. He was a late bloomer entering college at 175 lbs. And while he is not huge he has more than enough size for the pros and he is still growing having just turned 21. Plus the is much stronger than he looks. Don't write him off so easily he is going to be a star in this league. He'll get more out of our average offensive line than Keenum or Schaub. We can use or 2nd and 3rd picks on defense and use some of the money we save on signing older backup like McCown. But passing on Bridgewater is the kind of msitakes stupid franchises make.

If the Texans do pick Bridgewater...Do the Texans start revamping the roster? My entire thought process on this is really how quickly can the Texans get back to relevancy. My greatest fear is that if you do go QB and Teddy flames out, we will not know until a few years down the line. Lets look at the Redskins for example. Why would the Redskins draft Cousins in the same draft as RG3...While there was inherent risk trading so much of the future for a highly rated QB prospect, if you miss, you have crippled your franchise. ie Washington. They have to be killing themselves for mortgaging their future to STL.

This franchise can not afford to miss with their #1 pick. Period. If the Texans believe that their greatest weakness is the offense, they have to completely restock on the offensive side of the ball. Like the first 4 picks have to be offense:
Get Bridgewater first, get a big TE #2, get a solid OLineman with the 3rd pick, get a RB/slot receiver 4th.

By that time, will there be talent left to replace a poor defensive unit?

JJoe has lost a step, Kareem is a meh #2 corner, Antonio Smith is gone, Manning is old and slower, Cushing is injury prone, our LB core is total garbage, Keo is our starting safety and Swearinger is an undisciplined player, and our nickel DBs in Harris, McCain and Co. That is so many weaknesses for a once proud Defense.

In my vision for the Texans, we would instantly strengthen and try returning to prominence, our Defense. That has to be our identity. Go get a game changer as the #1 pick Clowney or Barr, get a corner(i like Justin Gilbert out of OSU) #2, get Christian Jones in the 3rd and round out the defensive draft with a NT McCullers or Daquan Jones would fit the bill #4. Its moves like this that can shape a franchise and reshape its identity. JJ Watt is right now our best player. We should build around him first. Defense wins titles; a solid defense can keep a team in a game; a game changing defense will be a contender.

whats worse? wasting 3 years grooming a prospect that eventually busts or wasting 8 years pretending you have a qb thats good enough to win with.. we need to gamble, hitting on a franchise qb will change this team around quicker than hitting on an elite pass rusher. remember we did that already.

Cutler gets a bad rap...Watch him play and he is a lot better than most QBs...specially when you give him a decent pocket. He's been beaten to death with his offensive lines. I dont like his attitude much, but the guy is a gamer.
