On one hand I hope Morey doesn't drag the Asik situation until February; however if he does, this would open the playing time to D-Mo and maybe he'd get some more confidence. I know Morey needs time to find a good trade for Rockets, but right now he hasn't got any with Smith sidelined for several weeks. I hope potential trade partners don't use that as a leverage against Morey.
I do think OKC has a lot of potential pieces we could use... but if I were Presti and I saw Morey on my caller ID. I'd send it straight to voicemail. Morey pretty much took away the piece that could have made OKC a 3 championship team.
If we trade Asik to OKC we might as well forget about winning the conference. OKC glaring weakness is Perk at center
But unlike in Houston, Perk sucks so bad that Asik would get his starter minutes even if coming from bench. The only thing hesitates me is I don't like the idea of making OKC better.
He might be forced to drag it out till at least Dec 15th given the trade season doesn't start until then. I think much like the Jones situation, McHale might very well be forced into giving D-Mo minutes at the backup 5 here the next couple weeks if Asik refuses to play or tanks the games when he's on the court like he did against Philly. The Greg Smith injury doesn't help matters now. Anyone now want to revive that "D-Mo & Jones out of the rotation" thread now so a bunch of people can be told.... Rotations aren't always locked in from October to May?? All Summer long folks were worried about those two guys getting a chance. McHale's going to call their numbers now so lets just hope those two are ready to step it up the next few weeks.
clearly that writer doesn't know nba cap issue at all. asik's cap impact is only 8+ mil. the writer needs to study before opening mouth.
Give me Greg Stiemsma. He is a pretty good shot blocker. Long and decently athletic. He's only making 2.5 million. Although he plays for New Orleans, no way I will trade Asik to NOP, have to make it a 3 way deal somehow.
Thanks, didn't know this. Well Morey is known for risk taking as with Royce White, so TT is another one...if it would have worked, everyone would be saying Morey is a genius. But at least he is willing to take risks. If Presti would take risks, he'd give near-max to Harden and we would still be a mediocre team.
Bima Thug said we could for example trade Asik(8mil) straight up for LMA($15mil) and not have to match salaries. My question is though, would that put the Rockets over the cap? I just want to know the financial situation and not proposing an LMA trade.
The only trade I would be in favor of would be for Aldridge in the possible scenarios. Big men who can clog the lanes, guard the paint, and are a beast on the boards like Asik are very hard to come by and just give it up for a 3 point specialist. The Rockets already have good 3-point shooters.
Not sure if it was risk taking or not, but it seemed like a way to buy some time. They thought they could get away with it for the first few months of the season, but losing games has really hurt their ability to be gimmicky with this situation. Asik is and was always going to be dealt at some point. You just have to play the trade game if you want to make a deal that makes this team a 50 win team, or you wait it out and do your diligence to make the deal that makes you a 58 win team. Its a big poker game for these GM's.
I want Stiemsma. I do not want ryan anderson. There are a dime a dozen players that can do the things ryan anderson does at a fraction of the cost. No way is Ryan Anderson worth 8 million to jack up 3's. I'd rather play Casspi who is just as good of a 3 point shooter who is playing for league minimum.
Trade him and parsons to Boston for Jeff green and olynyk (sp?). Green at the 3, jones at 4. Olynyk as a back up big.
