This could, in some way, be a blessing in disguise for the Texans.

Rumor is that Florida is possibly going to pursue Mike Shannahan (heard it in ESPN). If that's the case, and they get him, maybe, just MAYBE Kyle stays in Houston, with NFL aspirations....

The top five candidates to replace Meyer:
Houston's Kevin Sumlin will top Florida's wish list to fill its vacant coaching spot.

    1. Kevin Sumlin, Houston

He doesn't have ties to the SEC and hasn't coached at the BCS level. Then again, neither did Meyer. And as former Purdue coach Joe Tiller once said: "Don't interview Kevin Sumlin unless you're going to hire him. After you talk to him, you'll hire him."

Sumlin's offenses have been among the best in the nation at Houston, and he would open up the state of Texas for Florida in recruiting. His smooth style and personality would win over elite recruits—and fat-cat boosters.

Although its just one writer's opinion, I honestly wouldn't blame K-Sum for taking that job if offered.

In fact, it would be a pretty big bonnet in UH's cap to say that our coach was chosen as the successor at one of the nation's top 5 programs.

Of course, I'd rather he not leave, but I'm not banking on Florida interviewing him (In fact, I HIGHLY doubt he even gets a phone call).

Tough news from Urban ..... I wish that family the best.

: On Kevin and our Coogs ...Well, there was no way to factor in this happening and Florida to come a callin. If this is in fact true ( and this pains me to put it this way ) then he'd be nuts not to go. I've been sure we'd be signing him longterm. Either way, Maggard did his job. We have a good AD to usher in our new stadium and get basketball further back/probably along with the new joint/possible exit of Penders. While I think Sumlin is the perfect guy, there are many talented coaches/recruiters salivating at the upside here.

Like I said SEC, within 4 years ......

I didn't know there was an option to turn the boards black.

    Looks better.

Yeah, it's one writer's opinion. Oklahoma scares me. Florida doesn't. And as long as Meyer is hanging around Gainesville, an established coach like Bob Stoops isn't going to take it.

And by that logic no coach would have ever taken the Alabama job since BEar Bryant died.

And LOL at Florida being a top 5 program. Maybe this second they are, but it wouldn't matter if Jesus Christ himself were the coach next year. That team loses a minimum of 4 games.

    I don't get it.

The situation is not similar. Bear Bryant died as head coach. Bear Bryant did not retire in his prime and hang around the Alabama football program.

Edit - I guess Bear retired but died soon after.

 Why are they automatically going to suck next year? They have annual top five-ish recruiting classes and are absolutely loaded.

    LOL?

Umm.. Florida as a top 5 program (both traditionally and currently) is *not* a reach by any means.

I don't care what school you are, you can fall off.

    Florida fell off after Spurrier
Texas fell off after Akers (for a long time)
Oklahoma fell off after Switzer (for a long time)
    Notre Dame is still off
Nebraska has only begun to come back after Osborne

It doesn't matter who the program is, you need the right coach running it. Carroll and USC is another example. USC hadn't been dominant since the seventies. Meyer seemed perfect for Florida, as Mack Brown seems perfect Texas. I would be wary if I were a Florida fan

OH MY GOODNESS how have I never known about Dark Template? Sooo calming.

U.Meyer had a good run, sad to see it end this way...but please leave my Sumlin alone!
