Gasol will be a rocket. I had a vision. My visions are never wrong, they happened with luis scola and the rafer to orlando deal. Sometimes my vision does get away from me, like when they deal with the texans, but that's another story.

As compared to the post up game you see in Chuck Hayes

To be an upgrade over Hayes does NOT require O'Neal to play his best basketball ever.

He's 6'11, can block shots, rebound, run the floor, score in the post and even hit a 15 footer.
We can post Scola and Landry effectively, O'Neal brings us an 'anchor' defensively in the shot-blocking department, and 'length' to defend the big men and give them different looks.

TMac for JO straight up I'd be a fan of.

The only reason this has not happened should be because Miami doesn't like it.

    Agreed.

This team HAS to add a big post player if it has goals of making noise in the playoffs. A McGrady for O'Neal deal isn't what I dreamed of but I would accept it as a move that gives the team the same flexibility over the summer while addressing the team's biggest weakness from now until the end of the season.

Bringing in a player to match the length of guys like Gasol and Bynum without giving up a rotation player? No brainer.

DD, to me the only type of trade I can actually see the rockets doing with Tracy is pretty simple. They give up Tracy's contract for a player of value ie.(2nd or 3rd option-Kevin Martin type), but at the same time the rockets take the others teams bad or poison pill contract to help clean the other team clear their books for the 2010 free agency and beyond. I fully expect Moreys phone to be ringing off the wall as we get close to the trade deadline, he's going to have the big chip at the GMs poker table in february and it may be an even bigger chip if Tracy is playing well at the time.

    weak. Just keep T-Mac man....

What is out there we could honestly get? Whats the point of JO to help us for the rest of the year and try and make the 7th or 8th seed only to get beat by LA or Denver...or whoever...

I'm looking around i just don't see much..

This is successful in the trade machine:

    Houston gets:
    J.Oneal
    Birdman
Jr Smith(he can be a nuckle head jacker but maybe Rick can make him fullfill his potential-24yo)

    Denver gets:
    Shane Battier
    Jermaine Taylor

    Miami gets:
    T-Mac
    David Andersen

I guess Denver would want more since i doubt they want him as bad as Portland.

If it's T-Mac and Cook for J-O'neal, the Rockets will save about $10+ million in luxury tax and shared luxury tax revenues. If the team has no interest in bringing T-Mac back next season, cannot move T-Mac for anything else of value and the February trade deadline is looming, then putting a bunch of money in Les's pocket would be a pretty nice incentive for him to make that trade.

I'm all for the trade as long as it doesn't include scola. Cook is fine.

i dont know where all this love for J oNeal is coming from but damn!, hes no good in my honest opinion, he doesn't fit the adelman system. He is a post player, we already have 2 in scola and landry, both pretty damn good, hayes is a better one on one defender than he is, so tmac for oneal, makes no sense. we would have andersen, hayes, landry, scola, and oneal all trying to share time.. the front court is set its good, the backcourt is pretty well off as well, we need to keep tmac and see if he helps us in the playoffs , if not then we gets his expired contract, and thats it, but if we trade him we may get rid of another rotation player which would hurt the team. Plus oneal has a history of injuries also , i would throw up if this happens

Good point. I am guessing that Morey has a few of these "back-up" possibilities on the shelf while looking to see if a better "impact trade" is available. An "impact trade" may not arise until later, when the other team gives up hope on the season. So, I think Morey will be patient until the trade deadline. But come February, if nothing better is around, this kind of deal may make some sense.

Why is everyone so happy to just have JO in return for Tmac in a package?

From the games I've seen him on Miami, he's nothing but a jump shooter and not a very good one at that. He's a post up player but a lot of times he actually faces up but yet doesn't have to speed of the likes of Landry to blow by his defenders. He's incredibly injury prone as evident from the recent seasons.

Other than money saving incentives, I really would hate to see him in this fast running roster.

look if we are talking deals.... then why don't we try to move some real pieces? lets trade mcgrady-yao-cook for wade-o'neal-chalmers and call it an "even trade?" this way each team has something to kind of build around. i don't understand why all of you on this forum are worried about our role players being traded. that is not what the rockets need right now. in fact it is the "ROLE PLAYERS" that are winning the games for us as a team right now. so with that said, lets look at what the team needs and what they have:

yao- he will never get better. face it, he is getting older and so are his feet, which the last time i checked is the reason why he is out right now. he doesn't fit in the adelman system because he is too slow and he can't finish games. it would be different if he only played one half of the game, either the first or the second. but when he plays the whole game he slows us down and all of you know it. if we keep him what we need is a baseball strategy with him, like an opener or closer. if he wants to play in the fourth quarter then lets make him our closing center that way he has energy to finish the game. otherwise he is no good for our offensive and defensive strategies. result= lets see what kind of trade bait he can be.

t-mac- i don't know what to do with this guy. he is amazing when he wants to be, but he can really suck it up when he wants to as well. if he can fit into the system and not be our only go-to-guy then it could work out here in houston. but he has done enough to leave a bad taste in peoples mouths. sooooo..... either let him play the rest of the season and see what we can do with him after that, or make a major move for someone else using him and yao as bait. if we are giving up what our team has been trying to build around for the last 5 years then we should be going after all star talent in return. lets go for a wade/kobe/durant/roy and stop all the bickering about our "role" players. we need our core of players we have already more than anything. what we really need though is a big guy who can finish games and be consistent defensively and offensively and a 2-guard who can contend with the best of them. those are what win championships. think about it. since '91 all of the teams who won championships had a 2-guard who at the time was the man or one of the best at his position.

    bulls- jordan
    houston- maxwell/drexler
    spurs- ginobli
    lakers- kobe
    pistons- rip
    heat- wade
    celtics- allen

these teams had a particular piece (2-guard) that was one of the main reasons they won championships. thats what we need to get back on to the level we belong.

Put me in the "wait until the trade deadline" boat. The Rockets have absolutely no urgency to make this deal; Tracy's value will increase the more he plays, even if it is to the team's detriment. O'Neal would help marginally and only this year. Frankly, a "win-now" approach is the last thing this team needs. Just keep doing things the right way and hope that someone gets desperate between now and February and coughs up a true asset in exchange for T-Mac. Maybe it's Miami, maybe not, but they will have to be the ones to compromise if they want a deal to go through.

LOL. I'm ignoring everything you write that has "Tmac" in it. Getting O'neal makes as much sense as trading for Maggette.

O'neal doesn't want to play center, and we don't have an overload of wings. We have Ariza, Battier and Chase as the only regular guys for the wing position. JT certainly isn't ready, and if either Battier or Ariza goes down who'll you plug in at that spot? Brooks at SG? But then you have no backup at the pg position. No thanks to O'neal

I stopped reading after trading a wing for a big is just like trading a wing for another wing.
