I wouldn't mind this, but I don't understand why Miami would do this unless we sent them Scola, at which point no way we do this deal.

Didn't O'Neal complain about having to play center when he was with the Pacers or am I thinking about someone else?

I was pissed when CD took Cato in the in the Scottie Pippen trade instead of O'Neal. He was great in Indy when healthy. But now he is a shell of his former self and not worth the risk or effort. Scola is better. O'Neal my be a better option on the offensive end than Chuck but not on the defensive end.

I guess I would not be pissed at TMac and Cook for O'Neal (I would be pissed if Scola was thrown in) but I would be disappointed. O'Neal is definitely not a DM type of player and I just cant see DM going after him.

actually, he's not. He's a defensive liabilty with diminishing returns as the season progresses. I see him as a slight upgrade over Andersen, but even there, I think he's taking minutes from a developing player.

I also don't like it anymore if we add in cook and get under the salary cap. I know that is a motive of Morey's, but not mine. **** Les, you are saving Yao and most of Tmac's salary because of insurance. Don't get rid of your expiring's solely to get under the salary cap. Look for a ROI and count the insurance money as a remibursement of the ltax.

Hell at this point, if this is one of the only valid deals, I'd rather let Tracy play it out. If he works, great. If not, at least we aren't watching him rip it up on another team. ride the pine and good luck on your next contract.

If O'neal's contract is also expiring at the end of the season, we'd basically be getting him as a one-year rental, no? In other words, how is it different from keeping McGrady for the rest of the season and being left with nothing when the contract expires?

J.Oneal just isn't that good anymore. If this was the JO of a few years ago, I'd be more excited. Now, I wouldn't be fond of a trade of JO for Mac.

Neither player is what they once were.

Look at it this way, would you trade your 4th string wing player for a starting center?

    DD,
Fair enough. I respect what you're saying. I suppose with me it comes down to who do I think has more potential at this stage in their career to be an all-star player. And despite having MFS, I'd take the risk on Tracy. But that's just my humble opinion. I could be wrong.

Fine, then 4th string wing player for a backup center shooting 56% and grabbing nearly 8 boards a game?

O'neal is GARBAGE but his contract is expiring..

why would either the Heat or the Rockets do this deal?

if it came with an unprotected first rounder it would only be in 12-16 range.

That's not a sweet spot at all with this projected to be weak draft.

I say we pass and wait to see if Toronto will trade Bosh for Scola/Landry T-mac and send us some garbage.

This is really about T-Mac. You have NO CONFIDENCE in him. The rest of us do.

    We'll see, is all.

You know, it is really not about Tmac the player as much as it is about Tmac the contract or asset.

I do not like Tracy's game, that is true, but the reason I want him traded is because we need to get some value for his $23 million dollar contract.

And being over the cap, if we let it expire, we only get $7 million to spend out of the $23 total, so essentially we LOSE $16 million in asset capabilities by letting him expire.

If all trade avenues are exhausted, and we can not get anything back for him, then we will see what is best, but right now....IMO, for the good of the franchise going forward, it would be best to trade him.

All I care about is making the Rockets better......and his contract being traded is better than his contract expiring.

So I'm curious why you would advocate trading for O'Neal, whose contract situation, as far as I know, would pose the exact same dilemma for the Rockets at the end of the season?
