It was probably those recent tweets that were mildly complimentary of the Rockets that got him axed.

ESPN ran around like a tyrant. Not happy for their employees who hopefully land on their feet, but they worked for a company that had this coming for some time. Can't wait until the same thing happens to the NFL.

Not happy for the people losing their jobs but happy for the market to "correct" ESPN. They let some good talent go and I hope those people are able to find something else soon.

I'm actually surprised bigger names aren't going if they are really trying to cut budget. I guess they figured getting rid of a bunch of folks that make $100+k is better than getting rid of personalities that might have a draw.

Makes me wonder at what price some of these "big" names are working for (McGrady, Billups, parade of B+ former NBA stars). They might be doing it on the cheap just to get the exposure. I know in DC a lot of "talking heads" don't actually get paid for showing up on air. They are essentially just a guest and do it to get the face time exposure.

It seems like the vast majority of those let go fall into the realm of reporter, pushing them closer to being pure entertainment.

I don't know most of these guys but Jay Crawford and Ed Werder. Ed might be on the NFL network by tonight and Jay Crawford won't be out of work long either, FS1 or MLB network will snap him up quick.

    Exactly.

Sports fans: We want more sports highlights and info, less social media and talking heads arguing.
Disney/ESPN: We are firing all reporters.

Clearly the ratings are telling them that people want social media and talking heads arguing.

I can understand why they let one of him/Kurkjian/Olney go. They were kind of redundant.

Right, that's why I didn't say "people", I said "sports fans".
