Does Dwight Howard have a championship mentality?

Defense gives up 45 points twice to the Patriots and Schaub is to blame.

They scored SIX points at HOME in a game that would have given them homefield and a bye. Pulease...

If the offense can't stay on the field for more than 3 downs, it makes it tough on the defense. You're right.

Shaub will not pass more than 20 yards unless its off a freaking playaction to Andre. They need more plays out of the shotgun and spread the defense out. A shotgun offense would have helped against the vikings at home last year when we couldnt run the football 5 yards.

This really was the problem in that playoff game at NE. I love Wade, but his stubbornness and refusal to adjust cost us the game. ****ing Shane Vereen.....

I know I shouldn’t…. but, again, I will point out that you're arbitrarily assigning importance to games after the fact, allowing you to conveniently focus on bad games/losses. Was the Denver game not important? Baltimore? How about a suddenly big Colt game six days after a national TV pantsing in Boston - did that not count? How about winning two games - one on national TV, no less… hmmm – despite the defense giving up a combined 68 points – were those irrelevant wins? Keep in mind: we won the division by a game…

Nope – only his bad games matter, and his good games are always excused away (... cause, really, they're the Bengals - you know, that crappy team that's won 19 games the past two years (more than the Jets or Bears… hmmm) and had the 4th best defense in football last year… sorry - where was I? Oh yeah - GREEN BAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!)

Everyone should be rightly concerned with Matt Schaub based on how his season ended. But I’m begging you not to allow 4 games to retroactively render a very good (but not great, as it turns out) season bad. I’ll remind everyone that with Schaub as their starting QB, the Texans had won 15 of 16 games prior to the New England meltdown. As long as *that* Matt Schaub shows up, they’ll win plenty of big games. Trust me.

I'm sure some people in here wanted Mark Sanchez instead. After all, he has more playoff wins.

The thing about this "he doesn't play well on national TV" argument is that most of the games on national TV are against teams that are really good. So it's only natural that his/our winning percentage isn't as high as games not on national TV.

What QB in NFL history has ever had a better winning percentage against winning teams than against losing teams?

It seems the battlefighting mentality has seeped into enough fans. Lets not ride Schaub too hard. He fights with the best of em. Good kid and a ward worker.

Guess which team had more 3 and out plays on offense in the playoff loss to the Patriots.

hakeem always said, "there is booty in the journey."

It's laziness to think 'noodle arm' won't get better since he can't throw the ball past 5 yards and his arm isn't going to get stronger at age 32.

but it's not about getting better but seizing the moment as a TEAM.

Some of you, like our own book writer, love to get on manning's balls, but have you guys looked at his performances during the superbowl run? they were very tim tebowish like performances yuckk! Though schaub won't throw as many tds as the top 3 qbs, during stretches of the season, he can play like one. and that's all you need as long as the DEFENSE brings it.

Every superbowl team has had that during the playoffs, a DEFENSE that wasn't all that impressive during the season but in the playoffs played out their minds.

favorite quote on criticism of the qb position:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3nmc4wEGtUg&t=442

The lions and Jaguars offenses did just as much damage as these "prime time elite qbs".
The only difference was that the jags and lions weren't obliterating our Offensive line. It's a chain reaction.

yeaaa because schaub doesnt really need to step up because he always performs well in crucial situations and vs marquee opposition right?

    smdh....

espn is two years late on this story.

if you keep punting instead of scoring and keep giving brady and belichick offensive possessions due to our quarterback going 3rd down check down happy that's what happens.

he lacks poise in the pocket. this dude goes down in a fetal position whenever a defensive lineman gets through instead of moving. yes moving.

schaub is seriously lacking in the playmaking department that all great qbs are known for hence the addiction to 3rd down check down passes.

There are QBs that play well against good teams. Off the top of my head, I'd say any QB that has advanced deep into the playoffs has done well against good teams. Also, was GB a 'winning team' when they blew out the Texans on national TV last year?

Haha. My point exactly. My whole point was that he's generally bad in pressure situations - against good teams, on national tv, whatever. The counter argument to that can't be "yeah, well those are against better teams..." Uh, yeah... That's the problem. Maybe the singular most important position amongst the major team sports, and the Texans have a guy who more often than not shrinks in pressure spots. That's not a good sign.

Look, I'm not a Schaub hater. Those years of Schaub vs Vince debates were ridiculous. Clearly Schaub is a competent NFL quarterback. But pointing out a good game here or there that is somewhat a pressure situation... Well, yeah... It happens. Unfortunately you can't win a SB with that as your QB. Schaub would have to have the best run of his life for a minimum of 3 games in a row against great competition. I understand Joe Flacco just did that, but even before last year Joe had a couple things going for him Matt didn't... Principally having won so many road playoff games already. He was called Joe Cool already.

Schaub isn't David Carr in there. The texans should be a no brainer playoff squad... Heck, might even make an AFC championship game with the right matchup. But even with home field throughout... I do t think even Schaubs biggest supporters would be feeling all that great in that home 2nd round game or AFC championship game.

Finally... I still don't trust that body.

I'm not saying start Keenum or Yates. I am in hindsight somewhat questioning that contract signing... But it is what it is. But what happens next? Is there a plan for the next 3 years? It can't possibly be Schaub. Root for the best, sure, hope he steps up, sure... But is there any planning for what if he doesn't, if he can't stay healthy, if he just can't get you there. He rest of the squad IS stacked. And could be for years. Why waste that?
