agreed. i'm not getting the whole, "we weren't as bad as our record" thing. uh..we were. we flat out sucked on both sides of the ball. i never thought our defense would be that bad. our offense was pathetic. the idea that the texans are going to be a winning team next year is beyond me. the idea that we need an impact player for next year because we're just a player away completely escapes me. i think that is absolutely ridiculous. the texans have a long road ahead of them. they can be thankful they're in the NFL where quick turn-arounds aren't unheard of. but it would take a huge change for this team to approach 7-8 wins next season. and i don't see any one rookie doing that.
Please argue with this one I followed him since High School, so from the High School days I have been waiting to be a Vince Young Fan in the NFL.. Do you know what that means?? That means I was a Vince Young fan BEFORE even being a Texans fan.. It's not a crush, it's being a 'fan' lol. For someone who watches sports I'd think you'd know the meaning of that.
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3572378.html Not so fast, ESPN Don't believe two reports on ESPN and ESPN.com regarding the Texans on Saturday. The first one said the Texans were talking to the Titans about possible compensation for coach Jeff Fisher. Anyone with any common sense would know that there is no way that Tennessee owner Bud Adams would let his head coach come to the Texans. The second report said the Texans had decided they would take USC running back Reggie Bush, which was true before Vince Young's spectacular performance in the Rose Bowl. But the ESPN report also said that even if Young comes out early the Texans already have made up their minds to take Bush with the first pick. Also not true. The Texans have not even begun their evaluation of Young because few thought he would leave the Longhorns a year early. "It's premature to say anything until our new coaching staff gets in, and they are able to analyze our team, the draft and what happens in free agency," Texans general manager Charley Casserly said Saturday.
Crap. 3 more months of Vince Young threads. Please stay in school, Vince....for the sake of the bbs, please stay in school.
Lets wait for the NFL combine results also...that will be telling when NFL scouts have a chance to run these players though the mill.
no way guys like VY, Leinart or Bush subject themselves to the combines. they'll have a private workout maybe...but they can't improve their stock.
Yeah, that does sound a little ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as someone projecting five turnovers from Vince in the national chammpionship game, wouldn't you say?
Exactly -- I feel lucky just to get either one. I think they both will be great and forever linked. I can't say which one I prefer, but the thought of -- Young In a Titans uni, torching us twice a year because he's angry -- would make me sick to stomach. In my heart, I'de MUCH rather go to war with Young as my leader than with Carr. Young is poise and leadership personified. In Young I trust I also believe that Bush is a winner and will eventually become the type of player worthy of the #1 pick in fantasy -- meaning he will put up lots of points. Bush would make an immediate impact on the offensive side -- big time.
Max, I know how big of a homer you are. But to say that you're not attached because you haven't been in love with them since you were 5 is a little off, I think. In the sense that it doesn't necessarily take that long to develop ties to a team. I mean, when you go to college and go to a few games, it takes very little time before that team is YOUR team, and nothing can change it. So it's still hard for me to see how your allegiance can switch away from the Texans with one player. I also get your ties to Vince. Let's say he goes to the Saints... you could also say you've been a Texans fan longer than a Saints fan. If VY should ever get hurt or something, would you no longer be a fan of the team since he's not playing? It's hard to let your favorite team be based on a player since it's such a team game...and since there are so many starters on a team.
It might be a gradual process for you, but you can't use the excuses you're using. Just cause I have a counterargument right here I was young when the Oilers left and I cared more about basketball and baseball. But the Oilers were still my team. I was in college when the Texans came, and I've never lived in Houston for more than 3 months since they came back. But the Texans are my one and only team.. that's just how it is for me
It was really annoying when the Texans first came into the league and people were going nuts over them like they had been around for 40 years. Just now heading into the 5th year IMHO there should be a real feeling of team loyalty starting. We've ridden along with the up and downs, gotten to know the players, and watched a coach who wasn't very good for our needs but well respected lose his job. We're about to get our first true franchise player in Bush or (hopefully) VY ~ the team is starting to have a true identy. Instant blind loyalty to a new team that happens to be your city with a bunch of guys randomly gathered from around the country is a bit contrived if nothing else.
That blind loyalty people have for the Texans reminds me of those male serial monogomist who get dumped by thier longtime girlfriends and fall in love with the first piece of a$$ that gives them the time of day. Well some people aren't that p***y starved, in this case football starved. It's gonna take a little more than a new stadium, a crappy logo, 5 consecutive loosing seasons, and the adverb HOUSTON for me to settle down and profess my devotion.
i told you, i'm surprised i feel this way, too. but apparently i'm not alone. i've seen a few in here say it. listen to the radio and you hear that sentiment, too. yesterday i talked to a neighbor of my business partner who has been a PSL holder since day one. he owns texans jerseys and he's missed only one game in the 4 years the team has been there. he tells me that if the texans don't draft vince, he's done. he'll get rid of his tickets. on the other hand, there's my business partner. who hasn't been interested in the NFL in years...and doesn't care a thing about the Texans. he says if the Texans draft Young, he'll be buying season tickets. there's my father who has a passing interest in pro football...is a huge college football fan...but is soooo excited about the prospect of having young here in houston for years to come. i recongize all of these are just "stories." just antecdotal. but i think in the aggregate they are more than that. i can't explain exactly why i feel the way i feel. i'm not saying it's necessarily logical. it probably isn't. but i feel that way, nonetheless. feelings and logic usually aren't that intertwined.
madmax, you can find those same "stories" associated with Reggie Bush. I've heard people say they will buy season tix for sure if we get Reggie Bush over here. I feel the Texans will be ok either way, but i'm still hoping we get Bush.
Hell no. Mcneal has no heart. That is the one thing that seperates him and VY, well and also VY is like twice his size and runs the same speed.
