Come on. Okoye may be a serviceable player but you can only tout the Kwame Brown / Stromile Swift defense for so long. But hes only 23!! He could still be in college!! Let's trade Caron Butler for him! Fact is he may be young but he has been in the NFL for multiple years now. His window for improvement is significantly less than those who have 0 NFL experience. As far as Okoye vs Suh. Come on.
Damn I can't wait for the season to start. I am hoping Rick Smith can continue to pick nice young players as I can only imagine how tough it can get trying to keep everyone over time. A guy can hope though.
Terrell Suggs just said Andre will be the best player in the NFL next year on NFL live. That is some pretty high praise.
A host on a local radio show picked Ben Tate as a sleeper fantasy pick. His last sleeper pick was Sidney Rice, I think he said. Hope there's similar luck for Tate.
Equating basketball to football = fail. Okoye is younger than Suh. Reflect on that for a while. Okoye went #10 overall 3 years ago. Imagine 3 years more in college for him. Where did you think he would go now? Lineman, especially interior lineman, is a position that is less skill oriented and more physically demanding and certainly the best players tend to be more near their 30s, and in some cases, even well into their 30s. How many DLs under the age of 25 have we ever heard of doing well? Not DEs, specifically interior DLs. Very few, if any. If you think his "window for improvement" is lessened by being in the NFL so young, how do you logically draw that conclusion?
Probably from the notion that a player, by all rights, should improve faster in the NFL than in college...what with better facilities and coaching (plus being around significantly better players all the time to observe and practice against). The fact that Okoye hasn't really improved much at all in the NFL from his rookie season (and it could be argued he as regressed) certainly gives me the impression that, regardless of age, his probability of developing into a solid-great NFL DT is lower than a guy who is a little older but has no NFL experience.
Rick Smith really has to be applauded for bring in some great young talent...hopefully it translates into the playoffs. I REALLY REALLY hope Ben Tate is/can be pro-bowl material.
