I've only seen TO's interview (haven't seen anything from Keyshawn), but this is probably true (or perhaps some twisting of words on ESPN's part). I can't quite make out the original question, but I think the reporter asks TO something like: "Did you see Keyshawn's report on you at all? Did you feel thrown under the bus there or what?" I haven't really paid attention to this whole thing, but my first impression was that TO was attacking Keyshawn for "hating" on him and the Cowboys, and not really addressing Keyshawn's comments directly (although I don't know exactly what he said). I guess if Keyshawn has taken shots at TO previously, this makes a little bit more sense (not just attacking Keyshawn when responding to Keyshawn's comments about Parcells), although I'd rather him not say anything like this that could (and did) create unneeded controversy. You can watch/listen to the interview on the DC website: http://www.dallascowboys.com/multimedia_center.cfm?id=CD1CF551-B24A-3F04-883013BC17D4383B (look to the right for Terrell Owens interview 12/12, this stuff is about 7 1/2 minutes in IIRC)
That's another thing, Keyshawn did not really even say anything negative about Owens, if it insults anybody it's Wade Phillips. Sure T.O. defends Phillips in his comments but again he takes unnecessary shots at Johnson.
I actually agree I saw the video of Keyshawn's initial comments earlier today, and I didn't really think there was anything wrong with what he was saying. it wasn't really a direct attack against T.O., it was more of a defense of Parcells (which I happen to agree with). I've always loved Parcells though, so maybe I'm biased. I miss his news conferences, I would pay to watch them all the time lol <edit> don't get me wrong though, it was Parcells' time to go as far as a head coach. we needed someone like Wade this particular year
Simply put... the history is this: 1) 2006 -Key was cut by Parcells to make room for T.O. 2) 2006 -T.O. not utilized as the primary offensive weapon by Parcells... had "distractions"- was never really fond of Bill, but they never threw each other under the bus. 3) 2007 (this past Sunday) - Key calls out T.O. and brings up something about T.O. "attacking" Parcells (which had to be about last year, because this year he's been very mum) and then calls for T.O. to concentrate more or something of that nature (while he is on top of his game on a 12-1 team no less) and says that the Cowboys as a whole need to give Parcells more credit for this years team's success, which is ludicrous... all while not realizing that he, Key, looks like a used puppet defending the guy who cut him to make room for T.O. 4) 2007 - T.O. makes a long reply that shows that it is Key that does not get it... that Key is the one who can no longer play... that no one remember's his contributions even in the Super Bowl (no TD's, etc.)... that Key wouldn't even make 3rd or 4th WR on the current Dallas roster (which is true - therefore Key has no reason to try and school, or mentor him by way of a personal call out)... and that the main difference with Wade and Bill is that BIll did not use him as the main target, or "playmaker" and that Wade has, so now you see the results... I found it all dead on... when I looked at the whole series of events... Key has singled out T.O. for a while now. Good for T.O. to remind him who is behind a desk (since draft day, no less), and who is still achieving at a high level after being drafted 2 rounds later on the same day. Keyshawn is like Tiki Barber... a puppet under the New York spell of higher privilege, or false entitlement. New Yorkers are Yankees fans... now, let's stop the in-fighting! To sum it up: Who really cares anyway? It was all amusing, but really... arguing here over who is right? Both WR were/are primma donna types - so let the cats fight.
I am more interested in how long before TO explodes and the Cowboys self-destruct? You know it's going to happen just a matter of when?
The only part I understand as diss material is Keyshaun saying Owens needs to "concentrate" more (probably with the Owens dropped balls factoring in?) and then singling out Owens for something negative he said about Parcells. Owen's basically took it as a diss to his approach to the game, understandably, and fired back. All the parts about coming out in the same draft, Keyshaun being forgotten and cant make a team...isn't that basically ANYBODY in the football media that's not a Hall of Famer? He's dissing Keyshaun for not being elite, but what about the old fogies who've never played a down critiquing Owens? Keyshaun, Michael Irvin, Sterling Sharpe, or Troy Aikman might the ONLY FEW qualified to critique Owens? Just TO trying to talk how good he is, whatever... But if it shuts up Keyshaun, its whatever works right
That's stupid. Tony Romo stopped turning the ball over like he did at the end of 2006 and matured into an MVP candidate. Terrell Owens stopped leading the league in dropped passes. The end.
Parcells did not bring in T.O., Jones did and Jones probably cut or had Johnson too. Not until this year. All Johnson said was that Parcells helped make the team what it is. This is basically true because he had a say in draft picks, free agent signings, etc. and the Cowboys brought in some key talent during the Parcells years including Romo, Barber, Glenn, Witten, Ware, Spears, and Newman among others. Plus Romo and Barber just came on strong toward the end of last year and those are two key pieces to the offense, had they been starting the entire year things may have been different but players are like lottery tickets, you never know if you have a stud (Romo) or a dud (Leaf) but it was apparent at the end of last year that both of these guys were good and remained as starters or played a lot of downs. T.O. has been pretty mum on a number of things except for Parcells. All Johnson said was he needed to quit talking about Parcells and concentrate entirely on football. What could be more true with the playoffs coming up and with Dallas in a fight with Green Bay for home field advantage? How did T.O. show that Johnson did not get it when Owens was the one who took it WAY out of context? I think Owens did not get it and as said needs to be explained to in an elementary way in order to understand. Johnson may have only had yards in the Super Bowl but he had a large part in getting Tamp Bay there. He had a 1,000 yard season and had some TDs in the playoffs as the Bucs primary receiver. I doubt Keyshawn could make the Dallas team as well but he was not trying to "school" Owens at all either. He never really said anything negative at all and again Owens just took the comments out of context. If Bill did not use him he has a funny way of showing it. Ownes had a 1,000 yard season and 13 TDs, oh and a heck of a lot of drops. Didn't he lead the NFL in that category last year? Yeah, I thought so but that was Parcells fault too. It was not dead on just unnecessary as he took it out of context. I have heard Johnson praise Owens this year and give him his credit for Dallas' and Romo's success. Who cares what they are doing now? Did Johnson say anything about T.O. being a failure? Achievments? Stats? Who is better? No. As said a few times, his comments were taken out of context. How is he a puppet. Parcells and Johnson spent a great deal of time together and Johnson probably likes the coach. Is Dan Marino a puppet because he said Shula's comments on the Patriots might have some merit? If anybody is a puppet it is Owens because he plays to the media's tune and gives them what they want to hear in order to make a story. Don't really get this. Oh my goodness.....I AGREE!
What has Parcells ever done in this league without Bill Belichick as his defensive guru? A couple of 9-7 seasons (with no playoff wins) with the Cowboys? Compare that with what Belichick has done without The Big Manboobs...er, Tuna. Let's see....3 Superbowls and most likely a 4th coming on the heels of an undefeated season this year. Not too shabby... I think it's pretty obvious who the brains in that operation was all along. And it wasn't Man Boobs Parcells.
The funny thing is Romo doesn't bobble a snap for a field goal and Parcells could very well still be the Cowboys coach.
Key was telling him to shut up about him talking about Parcells and how last year sucked because of him, and kept saying the main reason of there success was because Parcells "built" that team. Not giving credit to Wade.
This was kind of funny...I understand whre KJ is coming from and I do give credit to Parcells as most of the guys on the roster, most importantly Romo and TO, are there... However, you have to give big props to Wade and Jason for take it to the next level and opening up the playbook to let this guys run and gun...
He never said he should shut up that I recall but he said he should concentrate on football and quit talking about Parcells. He even said in there you're having a great year. He never said he sucked but he stated that T.O. keeps complaining about Parcells when T.O. did not play up to his level last year (he lead the league in dropped balls). Parcells did have a hand in building that team so he deserves some credit not all of it but some of it and Johnson never said he should get all the credit for the team's success.
Thank you. Parcells deserves credit for bringing some very key players in. Phillips and company deserve credit for the success those players are having this season. It's really not that difficult to comprehend.
