T-Mac's shooting has never been money. It's been almost orgasmic at times, but the %'s are somewhat scary considering I do believe he's a great player. And he's been on a tear lately.

What I don't understand is we all know T-Mac can get his shot anywhere and anytime, but no one asks why he can't get 15' out while Yao's double-teamed and drill it. It's not his strength - he likes very open spaces much farther out - and those shots are Bonzi's bread-and-butter.

Although unlike T-Mac Bonzi may get his shot blocked at any given time, but my only point is there are midrange shots in this offense with Yao on the floor and sooner or later we'll find someone who just nails them. Bonzi can and many just don't care to see it.

Oh, and God bless T-Mac. I love that guy.

Bonzi might be as comfortable taking those jumpers as he is sitting on the sofa smoking pot, but it doesn't mean he's a better shooter from midrange

His greatest strength in operating on the low block. If he loses some weight, he can go back to the perimeter game and shoot it better. He's a better shooter than what he's shown with the Rockets, but he's never been a great shooter.

I really like his game though. Underrated passer, great rebounder. Can play good phsyical defense if he puts his mind to it (he has no choice playing for JVG :) )

Last game he had some mental lapses on defense and JVG got really angry

Bonzi is rare that he can play on the low block and I completely agree with you about his game. But I completely disagree with you about T-Mac's midrange game. Don't get me wrong - he can hit from anywhere - but that's not his strength (nor is shooting %).

Bonzi has been more consistent because he can't do it all. He likes contact and finds space when he wants to shoot.

I'm not comparing him to T-Mac in any way, but his strengths are completely unique to anyone else on this team. We need this guy more than most stomachs here can tolerate.

    Dude...are you serious?

Bonzi is a terrible shooter from midrange, even McGrady when he's not feeling it is better than Bonzi. This season Bonzi has chucked up so many airballs from midrange, it's not even funny. Hell, he even airballs from the FT line sometimes. He used to be decent but not anymore

Bonzi's strength is post up game. That's why he's here! Instant post up offense off the bench and good athletic physical rebounding on defense. He's better when he's iso'd like T-Mac on the wing with his back to the basket. He's also better cutting to the hoop and finishing near and/or at the hoop. Layups, post up game, cuts are Bonzi's strength, not the midrange! Did you see Bonzi in the Portland game? He got all his hoops from cutting to the hoop and finishing at the basket, not hittin' from midrange...

    and

When is T-Mac at his best usually? When he's iso'd within the 3 pt. line, about 17-18 feet away from the bucket. THAT'S MIDRANGE. He has the ability to rise and shoot, to break his man one on one, or to penetrate and dish out. That's when he's most deadly. He's also very deadly playing the Rip Hamilton game and running through a lot of back screens to the open spot which is usually a step or two inside the 3 pt. line. Last time I checked, that meant midrange. He hits those jumpers with consistency. He always starts the season slow, but he has a reason to pick up his game and naturally he always does later in the season. Obviously he's going to have some off games but mainly that IS his strength.

Why do you think this teams go-to play is to ISO T-Mac at the wing at about midrange? BECAUSE IT'S HIS STRENGTH.

I am serious. Bonzi has sucked this year, but he's consistently shot better than T-Mac throughout his career and the reason is not because T-Mac has had 4 hands in his face. If you don't want to accept that, then fine, because I don't want T-Mac to change his game at all. That doesn't change the fact Bonzi historically has been far more efficient from 18' in.

This thread isn't bout T-Mac, Yao, or JVG but this team doesn't "have it all". And Bonzi has skills that we need, that Tracy and Yao don't always display and he is capable of doing many things almost as well as those two
guys when he's not fat and generally pissed off.

BTW, most people here can name 5 former Rox players with a better midrange game than T-Mac has ever dreamed about. Methinks we're not speaking the same language about this topic.

Peace out, and God Bless T-Mac. :)

The numbers prove you wrong. Bonzi, has a post game and no midrange game to speak of. Here are numbers from the 2005 which is Bonzi's best season and Tmac's worst.

Not really. You can't compare a player who has had problems staying motivated throughout games and is clearly going to push hard towards the end of this season only for a contract that "consumes" him, to Mr. Professional Shane Battier.
