Next headline in a year or so: Yao Ming set to decide on retirement from basketball. He is finished, done, finito, either dump him or let his contract expire and move on. It is a sad day, but lets not make it into a sad decade by insisting on keeping our cash cow around so Les can continue to get the red carpet treatment from Chinese investors. Should have cashed in on our cash cow while we still could
I think you missed Asian Sensation's point. From my understanding, he wasn't necessarily advocating the surgery, he was just addressing the seemingly popular sentiment that Yao should avoid the surgery, not for any reason inherent to the surgery itself, but rather primarily for the purpose of making a return to the lineup next season. And I would completely agree with Asian Sensation on that. I'm not a doctor, so I have no idea what Yao should be doing. I only hope Yao does what is best for Yao, with regard to not only his career but the rest of his life. The one thing I do know is that next season shouldn't be a factor in Yao's decision and it's incredibly naive and short-sighted to think that it should be.
I know. As far as I see it, yao and tracy are done just as much as francis is done. I like both guys and think that both have played well most times, but neiter are primary guys on a ring team and neither can stay healthy.
Yes if he going to miss a season if chose surgery, why not just wait 3 month and see if is healing, if not he can do surgery anyway 3 more month wont be any difference.
The cold, hard truth. Not pretty, but the way it is. At the end of the 07-08 season, Les Alexander said, "we will continue to build around TMac and Yao." Considering their health histories at that time (even worse now), I thought that was an incredibly bad move. The writing was on the wall, and better arrangements could have been made. If the Rockets offer TMac and/or Yao maximum extensions, the Rockets will officially be the dumbest sports franchise in history. Why do I feel that is not out of the realm of possibility?
the surgery would help to "hopefully" prevent further injuries. we all know if all he needs is rest, then that would be the case. but most likely, with just rest, another stress fracture is inevitable. but again, it's up to yao and his family. do what is best for his career and his family. that's the first priority right now.
What a pin to do is to hold the bone togather. Healing is on the bone its own. Hairline fracture means the two pieces of bones are close enough to heal and pin is not to change it. Surgery for preventing future surgery? Forget about it. Yao, please be patient, not to rush for surgery. I want to see you play this season. If you can not, no matter what, You are done.
I wish they would just have or not have the damn surgery .. I am starting to get sick of hearing of it.. it's starting to sound like a "brett farve" moment
+1 I agree. All surgeries come with significant risk. Better to just give it some time. Hell... try acupuncture, anything that might stimulate that bone to heal.
It's a very tough decision, keeping the foot in the boot can't guarantee healing either.Nevertheless,it is part of conservative treatment and may carry less risk than outright surgery.
i think his health should be higher priority and basketball career second. remember, there is also a chance of him coming back and injuring his foot and never walk again. whatever it is, its his call. its sad to hear about his injury but for now, we have to move on and assume Yao will not play again. now DM should working his ass bringing Amare here.....damn another injury prone player!! are we doomed??!!
