Melo is a team cancer. He had multiple opportunities to go to a winner in Houston or Chicago and chose a 4-20 roster in New York. He is the most overrated "star" in the league that has never won anything. I'm glad to see his losing mindset destroying another Knicks season.

Carmelo Anthony will consider waiving no-trade clause: source

    Quote:

BOSTON — This is how bad it has gotten for Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks:

Five months after swearing his allegiance to New York and signing a five-year, $124 million contract, sources told The Post the All-Star forward would be open to dropping his no-trade clause if team president Phil Jackson strikes a deal with a team Anthony would like to play for.

Part of Anthony’s deal included the rarely used no-trade provision.

On Wednesday, it was revealed Anthony got into an on-court scuffle with teammate Tim Hardaway recently, which resulted in a players’ only meeting on Saturday.

Anthony can be traded beginning Monday — the unofficial start of trade season when all free agents and draft picks signed over the summer can be moved.

A trade to a contender would be a financial boon to Anthony as he has a trade kicker attached to his contract that is worth 15 percent of the remaining value at the time of the deal. That kicker was put in place by Anthony’s handlers to deter teams from approaching the Knicks about Anthony. He would receive a lump-sum payment of roughly $17.5 million if he is traded Monday.

“He thought things would be better than this, but he still wants to stick it out for now, ’’ a source said. “He trusts Phil, but I think he’s afraid of Phil.’’

“I’ve told him it might be a good idea to hang in here and see what it’s like for a year,’’ Jackson said at the time. “I just offered that this gives you an opportunity to see how this is going to change, how we’re going to get it going.’’

If Jackson looks to trade Anthony, the Bulls would be the obvious candidate. They pursued him heavily in the offseason, and the new documentary on his free agency tour depicted how close Anthony came to asking Jackson for a sign-and-trade to Chicago since he didn’t want to accept the $74 million offer the Bulls had room for under the cap.

Anthony also visited Houston, Dallas, and the Lakers.

The Knicks are in such shambles, Jackson may have to simply make a trade — addition by subtraction. Jackson branded the Knicks as having “a loser’s mentality’’ down the stretch of games and Anthony has missed a lot of big shots late in the fourth quarter during the current losing streak.

Jackson also criticized Anthony’s game for lacking more defensive energy and pluck on the offensive boards.

For his part, Anthony retorted, “We don’t have a loser’ s mentality.’’

So then Melo signed the super-max contract with NYK under false pretenses. Not only that, he gets a nice bonus (trade kicker) for his trouble.

Looks like Chicago was always his final destination.

    Good luck with that, Tibs.

George Karl is a three time cancer survivor yo. First he had the Melo and managed to get through it even though it wasn't too bad on him, but then he had the A.I and that **** ****ed him up bad too but Nugs still made the playoffs, but he also had the real cancer and he got through it while coaching and dealing with the other cancers.

George Karl 3x cancer survivor. God Bless him.

What the f***? Why would he even do that? For his sake I hope his "handlers" aren't the same guys who will be handling his investments on his quest to become a billionaire.

By the way, how do you just decide to become a billionaire? I didn't know that was something that would happen just because you decided you wanted it to happen. "Hmmm, I think I'll invest in start-ups and become a billionaire... yeah... that sounds sweet!" I wish him success but I'll be shocked if his decision to become super wealthy doesn't pan out so well.

Good that he shot that down. That would be a really shady move to take max money and then turn on the team after a month.

The original headline sounded like either total bull or a general musing by someone in his camp that his PR guys hadn't vetted, so I'm not surprised at the "retraction" (if you will).

Wouldn't be surprised if Melo wants out. He had to publicly deny it because asking out would hurt his brand.

Which, in the NY market, guarantees there will be a story written that says he is doing that. That the story is automatically plausible doesn't make it true. Of course, that doesn't make it false either.

You guys realize this denial means nothing. There is no way he would admit it if true.

We will never know either way.

A friend jokingly mentioned that he could go to the Pelicans.

I think it's not that bad a idea. The Pelicans have some young players the Knicks could use to transition to a new era and Melo-Davis would be a good duo when healthy. NOPs have a lot of trade pieces I think because even when healthy they don't have enough to compete in the West around Davis but at the same time these players (Jrue, Evans, Anderson) are all solid players that teams may want.
