I think we should back off a bit. When the Heatles created their team, everyone flamed them for teaming up. Same with Malone/Payton to LA. When Patrick Ewing tried to get MJ to join him, MJ said f**k that, I wanna beat the best, not join them. I respect Melo for it more than chastise him. He knew they would suck. 1st year coach/GM, no cap room, no picks, very few solid (much less good) players. We as Rox fans think it was a stupid move, but it's a classy move to me. He wanted NY, now he's gonna ride the ship, sink or swim, and his kids don't have to change their whole life. Classy move, Superstar move, not ring chaser move IMO.
I like to think I try not to celebrate someone's livelihood being affected, I kind of like to imagine that Derek Fisher leaving the league and getting fired as a coach in the same year.
Yeah just because you are running a triangle doesn't mean every player in the system is expected to read/react and playmake.
I think he knew the entire time he wanted the money and the non-basketball opportunities that NYC presented. There was no point in leading other teams on if he knew he just wanted money. I think that's the reason people are mad. He pretended to explore opportunities that would have put him on a contending team (Chicago and Houston) but in the end winning just wasn't important to him.
Thank you for providing a balanced perspective (kinda rare these days). To those pointing at the frustration inside the Knicks I am actually happy about it as a fan. Frustration is better than complacency and turmoil may lead to change.
What business is Melo even known for? Even Magic's movie theaters were more of a one liner joke than some shiny examples of smart entrepreneurship.
What business opportunities is he exactly taking advantage of in NYC? Nothing to my knowledge. He is becoming increasingly irrelevant in his field (NBA basketball) and if anything is becoming less and less recognizable and likable. Not exactly a smart business decision.
