    Right, I phrased it badly.

We agree that they still retain Lee's bird rights tho.

I seem to remember that in order to sign the offer sheets we needed to waive Lee's Bird Rights, but if neither Asik or Lin comes aboard, we are able to get Lee's Bird Rights back. I don't really understand how this works. Maybe someone can clear this up for us?

They could trade for him today and trade him again tomorrow on his CURRENT contract.

    No.

Under the new CBA if we trade for him we couldn't extend him for 6 months from the date of acquisition and then he could not be traded for ANOTHER 6 months after he signed the contract.

Edit: That's actually a really good question and I will add it to the FAQ

Sure, though I think they likely keep him the whole year and gamble on signing him in free agency. HOU would be able to offer $30M or so more in guaranteed $ than any other team. Also, unless the team he wants to go to has $20.5M in cap room, even if he leaves, he likely has to do a S&T unless he wants to take an even bigger discount to leave.

He's probably referring to rumours of a flip. Its quite ridiculous, and was also thrown out there as the only "logical" reason Houston is in the mix by everyones favorite ESPN anchor.

I believe a flip is only possible if Dwight becomes a complete distraction, goes all T-Mac crybaby, and most importantly refuses to play by faking an injury or mailing it in on the court.

Even if Dwight tells the world that he wont re-sign in Houston after the deal takes place, Morey is most likely willing to call his bluff and see if he has the marbles to actually walk to Brooklyn for the MLE. Currently the only threat next summer to sign him to a max deal would be Dallas, and they still are about 30 mil shy of what Houston can offer. With Dallas' assets, you are almost better off letting Dwight walk in the summer to Dallas than to take back assets from them.

Another wrinkle would be the Lakers, and Bynums willingness to sign in Houston long term knowing that Dwight has checked out of Houston early and is willing to leave money on the table to go to Dallas. If the deal made sense next February then its a possibility albeit an unlikely one.

So the longer we wait to trade for him the better. Will give us more time after the trade to sign another superstar along side him during free agency before he can decide whether to demand a trade or not.
