I don't think this is a great move for Atlanta, unless Acie Law is a bust. He was a #4 pick or so a couple years back, right? They give up a young point guard and a non-guaranteed contract in Claxton and get back Jamal Crawford. I HATE Crawford's game. Good stats, makes bad decisions, doesn't involve his teammates well, jacks up terrible threes and stupid shots, and has NEVER played on a good team. Chicago, New York, Golden State...his game doesn't translate into winning. He reminds me of those late 90's combo guards that people thought were better than they were until everyone collectively realized those guys weren't winners. Atlanta did not get better, particularly if they now let Bibby go.
Hawks fans had so much hope for Acie Law. Don't know what happened but he never got much run in Atlanta.
It seems pretty obvious that Crawford, for all his talent, is too me-first and doesn't contribute to what really matters: winning.
I can't believe i'm about to say this: ANOTHER great trade by Atlanta. Say what you want about Crawford but he's a 20 PPG scorer that can play both backcourt spots and the Hawks literally gave up nobody to get him. Outside of Flip Murray last year the Hawks had literally no bench. Adding Crawford to the mix changes the whole dynamic.
Warriors would have done anything to get rid of him. He is by far one of the worst defenders in the league, even the warriors were appalled by his level of defense.
Which makes me wonder why Nelson didn't want him. Hell, in Nelson's system, Crawford should have been the starting power forward.
The only thing appalling in this trade is the Warriors' sense of asset management. You don't trade a 20 PPG scorer for trash no matter what type of baggage he carries.
thats what i dont get i think nelson really shot himself and the warriors front office with all of his talk of telling crawford that he wont be around next year to the media. that drove the price down since other teams knew JC was going to be dealt. the hawks offered up some bad pieces and got a legit scorer in return. if they can resign bibby then they have significantly upgraded their bench for non-contributors. you cant ask for much more than that.
ATL is going to be a solid team for the next few years. Even if they don't want to hang onto Josh Smith, they still have a bunch of solid pieces that are young and athletic. Joe Johnson, Al Horford, Marvin Williams, Mo Evans, Pachulia, and now Jamal Crawford gives them a heck of a nucleus that'll be exciting to watch.
i think both sides benefited from this trade. the warriors had a glut in the sg position with ellis, jackson, azubuike, and morrow, and that situation was bound to blow up if the pressure stayed on too long. plus they acquire a true point guard who they can provide with playing time and develop, especially since they aren't sniffing the playoffs this year. the hawks on the other hand pick up a legitimate scorer just in case marvin williams departs. i think joe johnson lead the league in minutes played last season, so i don't know how when crawford will get his playing time, but maybe this will make johnson more efficient (since he doesn't have to carry as much of a load). crawford i think can play minutes at the pg position, right?
Not a great deal by the Hawks. Effectively your either going to have to play Jamaal off the bench....I believe Crawford is a starter, you won't get much out of him coming off the bench. Trading Bibby to houston frees up a spot though
Adds depth on paper for the Hawks. Will Crawford be satisfied with mostly a 6th man role at the 2? Acie Law hasn't done anything of note.Speedy is sadly done. Mostly done to get rid of Jamal. Anything extra for GS is a plus point.
I disagree with the anti-Crawford people. He just needs a good coach, structure, and motivation. I don't like judging guys like Maggette or Crawford who never got into a solid situation. Hawks just landed a Ben Gordon type scorer for nothing. Great move no matter how you slice it.
