Too bland for my liking. None of it to do with her gender or voice. She is knowledable though. And really there arent that many naturally entertaining + knowledgable types. She's a livelier presense than Jon Barry at least
I don't mind her which is positive. Outside of jvg or Walton, anyone else pisses me off with their lack of preparation. Doris Pretty much speaks to what she knows and doesn't try to make **** up about what she doesn't know about. No flashy but I trust and respect her opinions
She sounds like a tennis commentator. In fact, she and Chris Evert could switch places and I wouldn't mind.
The problem with Doris is that she's dull and not engaging. Sure, she's knowledgeable and decently articulate, and that's great and all, which is why I don't dislike her. But it's just as important to also be entertaining, if not more important. For many people watching TV, nothing makes them want to change the channel more than a boring telecast. Even "horrible in an entertaining way" is better than "yawn-inducing". To be fair, this issue is applicable to about 90% of all ESPN TV personalities, not just Doris.
I think she's solid, comes prepared. She's improving, too, saying more with fewer words. I like color analysts who can offer insight and teach some basketball, like Hubie Brown and Doug Collins. Matt Bullard, at times. Van Chancellor was great, especially calling the play just before it happened.
She's one of the most informed analysts but for some reason I can't stand her voice. Her voice is trying to hard to be between a man and a woman.
I think she does a professional job. Doesn't make mistakes. Knows the game. Unlike Reggie Miller who says at least 50 stupid if not unfounded things per broadcast.
I think I remember hearing her on college broadcasts and she struck me as a very good commentator. There has to be a balance of entertaining and knowledgeable personalities on a panel, but she'll play her role well I think.
I like non-player commentators. A lot of the former players just come in and BS without doing much homework.
How does that have anything to do with the thread topic? It is like complaining about David Stern in a Tracy Mcgrady thread.
