While NY is prime for a move, I don't think Kurt can be had for 1 of our pfs without something to really sweaten the deal (at least 1 1st round pick). JYD, maybe but if we want Kurt we are going to have to give them someone better than who we want to part with. And if you introduce a 3rd team that has someone that NY would want, why would the 3rd want 1 of our pfs instead of Kurt - ie. why not just trade with NY.

I think we have a better chance of moving Mo to Golden State - another team ripe for a move and Chris Mullin at the helm.

There is a reason why MoT is not back yet from the injured list even though he himself claims to be healthy. He would screw up everything that the team has accomplished thus far, at least from a chemistry standpoint. Also he would cut into Padgett's minutes, who incidently has alot to do with the team's chemistry as well. Howard is holding up fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

We can sweeten up by taking Moochie back?:

    Houston trades:
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)

    Houston receives:
    C Kurt Thomas (11.4 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 2.0 apg in 36.9 minutes)
PG Moochie Norris (2.7 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 10.7 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +6.3 ppg, +7.1 rpg, and +1.8 apg.

    New York trades:
    C Kurt Thomas (11.4 ppg, 10.1 rpg, 2.0 apg in 36.9 minutes)
PG Moochie Norris (2.7 ppg, 1.3 rpg, 1.2 apg in 10.7 minutes)

    New York receives:
PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -6.3 ppg, -7.1 rpg, and -1.8 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

I saw this idea somewhere else, but I kind of like a Taylor for Cliff & Najara. I don't like Najara (who has three season left on his contract) but he would be a guy who would produce with his minutes. Plus, with Cliff coming off the books this season, Taylor's contract is virtually cut to half going into next year.

I don't know about ya'll, but I really like having a guy like Howard taking games over when he wants/meeds to, and laying back and not eing selfish im other situations. He's improved his rebounding, and although he will always be a finesse player, I still think he is an important part of the Rockets.

If we can get anything for mo that doesn't leave us with a longer contract, fine. Otherwise, I say we stand pat.

While a trade of Howard for Thomas straight up (more or less, meaning no draft picks and only piece meal players on the side) would be good, I don't think Thomas is that much better than Juwan to merit giving up draft picks or any of our better role players.

If we could swing a deal of Taylor + for Thomas, that would be just grand. But I don't see it happening.

Gotta give you points for thinking outside the box - that would sweeten the deal.

A Taylor for Thomas trade would have us paying around 14-15 mil for Howard and Thomas for the next 4 seasons. That's an awfully big investment for 2 role players entering the the twilight of their careers. Especially since neither guy is likely to be the ultimate solution at the 4.

You don't give that type of money for that many seasons to old role players. Role players should be getting Bob Sura/Jim Jackson type of contracts. 2 or 3 seasons in length at around 3 million per season.

I'm all for getting rid of Mo Taylor, but not for a contract that's even worse than his.

Kurt Thomas' contract is not worse than Mo's. It runs two years longer, but the remaining money owed under both deals is the same. Mo for Kurt, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Actually, someone recently made a big fuss about me suggesting a trade involving these two players, saying it is completely unrealistic, as NY would never do it...now you say Houston should not do it...

Taylor is owed around 18 mil for the next 2 seasons. Kurt Thomas is owed around 30 mil for the next 4 seasons. Combine that bloated long contract with Juwan Howard's bloated long contract and we will have very little flexibility for the next 4 years.

At least with Taylor, in a years time we'll have an expiring contract that we can use for trade or we can just let it expire.

In 4 years, Juwan Howard and Kurt Thomas will be at the end of the bench collecting their big paychecks. Think 2 Clarence Weatherspoons.

If "oopshype"'s numbers are correct, Taylor is owed almost 19 mil for the next two seasons and Thomas is owed almost 22 mil for the next three seasons. If that is correct, I was wrong before, Thomas' contract actually only seems to run a year longer than Taylor's...

Taylor's contract will not expire in a year's time.

Hoopshype is inaccurate. Kurt Thomas signed an extension in 2004 for 30 million that would keep him signed until the 2009 season.

What I meant by expiring contract is Taylor would have only one year remaining at 9 million, making him a valuable trade asset.

    Heres the deal.

We currently have two players that basically provide the same thing to the team. Both have similar contracts and skills. One plays and has created great chemistry with the team (JuHo). The other has been playing poorly this year and has been on the IR for what seems like forever (MoT).

I don't see any reason to go and get another player with the same skills that is older and really not any different, especialy when that player would deserve to be a starter right away. MoT for KT would leave us is a similar situation to what we have now. Two guys with similar skills that both have a claim to the starting position. One with chemistry and one without. The only advantage to this trade really is the fact that I think KT has more trade value than MoT or JuHo.

MoT for JYD on the other hand sounds like a great trade especially if we can get a little something else in the deal like some picks or something. JYD provides something that we don't have. A player that really only survives in this league because of his heart and hustle. An energy guy that lives to do the little things and makes his game around filling a role. A player with no bones or problems with his role and infact likes it.

I see a JYD for MoT trade providing the same kinds of benefits that the JJ for Wesley trade provided.

I don't get the excitement some have expressed over the prospect of getting Cliff Robinson in a trade for Taylor or Howard. I mean we're talking about a guy that played for the freakin' Blazers the last time they reached the NBA Finals in 19 freakin' 92'. He's so old he's not even a decent role player on a playoff-caliber team in my opinion. Love the Kurt Thomas rumors though, but feel that a PF of Thomas' magnitude is going to require more than Juwan Howard or Mo Taylor to land through trade. It can't be said enough. There is no more glaring need for this team than a physical, rebounding power forward to take some pressure off of Yao. I long for the day when we put a credible PF next to Yao.
