wow if the Rox can trade MoT and Juwon for Jurt Thomas and Derek Anderson, I might spasm myself to death. That would just be an absolute great trade. I'm not kidding, if it is possible we can do this, we should do it.
I don't get it. And JYD is everything we need at the 4. A hustler and a rebounder. We don't need a high scorer here as long as he rebounds and plays defense. In 1999, he averaged 9.6 rpg coming off the bench playing only 25 mpg. In 2002, he averaged 9.2 rpg in 33 mpg. In 15 games in 2003, he averaged 8.5 rpg in 27 mpg with Toronto, and then 6.5 rpg in 23 mpg for Chicago. Forget Kurt Thomas. JYD is our man.
Dude Sam, if you knew anything about Kurt Thomas you would know that he wasn't playing 40+ minutes a game for his whole career. If you didn't know anything about Kurt, yet you was still smart, you could check his stats throughout his career and could come to the realization that he averaged between 25-35 minutes. He's earned his money and is doing quite well this year. Any team in the league would pay him handsomely for his contributions, and would be giddy to pay him his current contract for his production.
I'd be interested in seeing those numbers - from the same area of the court. I seem to remember Mason had about that much range too, from the top of the key or the wing, he wasn't like Otis Thorpe. But both he and Thomas are defense-first guys, scoring is an afterthought. Juwan has been a scorer throughout his career, he's made a living off his ability to shoot jump shots from the key and the wing, along with a solid post game. MoTay's got more range than either of those guys, he's money from a foot or so inside the 3 point arc. Not to say those guys are better than Thomas. Just better shooters. No, they're not. Taylor only has 2 more years remaining after this one, Thomas has 4. Taylor will be 30 when his contract runs out, Thomas is 32 now and will be 36 when it's done.
No, teams are not "giddy" to pay players like Kurt Thomas 8 million dollars a year. Sorry. And yes, I realize he's been a part-time player throughout his career. He doesn't merit more time than he gets. Look at guys like Antonio Davis (36) and Dale Davis (35), and you'll see where Kurt Thomas will be production wise by the end of his contract.
It would be detrimental to trade Mo for KT anyway. Remember JHo off the bench in the beginning of the season? He needs his shots get going too. If we were able to trade Mo for KT, he'd start so we might as well trade JHo for a good energy bench player also.
i'm in NYC, and i watch a lot of knick games. kurt is a better shooter with greater range than either mo or ho. he is a FAR better rebounder and defender. talent for talent, there is no way we lose at all. you are correct about the contract though. but the espn artice (in the origional post) said the rockets were trying to get kurt for Jho, not mo. if we can somehow do that i would be all for it.
I am not sure that anyone who says that KT has no jump shots has any credibility regarding KT as a player. And his D is way better than JH's. At least he does not lose his man in the paint and is not afraid to foul, thus protecting the 5 from getting into foul trouble from help D.
Kurt Thomas's mid-range jumpshot is complete and total money. I think he has one of the better jumpshots as far as true power forwards go in the league.
Midrange jump shot or not, Kurt Thomas is an aging power forward with a limited offensive game who's locked into a cap-killing contract for the next 4 seasons. He's better than Juwan or Mo, but he's hardly a star. He hasn't played for a winning team since 2000, and coincidentally he's putting up better numbers this year for a terrible Knicks squad. I just don't see the great benefit in picking up a stopgap guy like this. I don't think trading Howard for him would be a terrible move, but I'd prefer to get out of our big contract problems rather than extend them.
If it takes Howard to get Thomas, then we have to do it. Thomas is just a better fit for our system. He rebounds well, plays better D than Howard, and shoot midrange jumpers much more consistent than Howard. On defensive end, he will help Yao on the board, and on offensive end, he will keep the opponents 4 away from Yao.
May I point out that I suggested this and certain people were trying hard to make it sound like a ridiculous idea. Interesting to hear that the Rockets are actually trying to get it done. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90950
Kurt's too old...but still yeah I'd trade Taylor or Howard for him..no first rounders or anything. Nazr Mohammed wouldn't be too bad..but anyways yeah THomas would be good. Mo for Derek Anderson would be good too. Not bad at all.
The article says the Knicks don't want to trade Kurt Thomas. It will take more than Juwan Howard to get him. It would have to be Juwan and our 1st round pick.
He's 4 months older than Howard, with a contract that's not all that much different than Juwan's. If memory serves me, Kurt Thomas actually led Division I basketball in scoring his senior year. I would consider on this team Kurt to be every bit of Howard's equal offensively, but a much better rebounder and defender.
If we get Jerome Williams for Mo T I would do it. Kurt Thomas's contract is more Howard but he is a better fit for us although he is not a long time solution. I would prefer to get JYD for Mo right now but their salaries don't fit. We shouldn't trade our 1st round pick for anyone.
