Awoke trying to play finesse ball instead of using his size and beasting people like he should be. Defense and rebounding are the main problems with this team and I see Josh Smith signing with Houston for that exact reason

What is the saying? "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Bynum can't even go bowling without getting hurt. I hope the young man has a good life---he's made good cash, hunh?---but I hope Morey doesn't give him a penny.

Bro, I like Howard as much as anyone else. But you don't need to **** on Asik to praise him.

Asik does what he does, which is defense/rebounding/picks. Everybody has bad games man, Dwight's gotten "owned" by players not up to his caliber as well.

Both of those are kinda weak. Although the info about Delfino's deal has been out there for a while. I tend to think his contract probably has the June 30 deadline.

We just never get the straight skinny on these ending, non-guaranteed, team option contracts. The media has reported them all sorts of ways and we find out down the road that it wasn't accurate. I tend to believe (without evidence) that there is more to the Brooks contract than a simple team option on June 30th. Why wasn't it stated as such by the alleged source here?

I would not be surprised if we found out at a later date that there was more to these contracts with Brooks, etc. then we know now. The IDEAL position for Morey to be in is to control non-guaranteed contracts throughout a good portion of this off season, starting July 1 until the season starts. It gives him the advantages of trading for superstars using the 50% or $5 million rule while at the same time he can cut contracts and sign guys outright. I think Morey is eyeing this flexibility and will be maneuvering between now and June 30 to make that come about, whether that is by renegotiating or modifying and extending deals or whether it is with signing guys like Brooks with an agreement to give him the $1 million he lost on next season's salary with a guarantee of $1 million for 2013 that Morey can trade back to Sacramento with the cash later on.

I sense there is more to the contract for Brooks than what we know now. The article from ESPN does not indicate that the contract has a team option. The way it is reported from the source leaves a lot of unknowns. It could very well be partially guaranteed or totally non-guaranteed.

This is just speculation. If they can get Josh Smith relatively cheaply, it could be helpful for us. Certainly not for the max.

I'd take Bynum at a discount price 1yr guaranteed 2nd yr team option type contract. Rockets need another C who plays D. Would be a good trade chip at the least.

More I see of Josh Smith more I feel he fits the Rockets

howard makes the most sense. if we had howard, we'd be WCF finalists at least.

and i can't decide on dwight. he's so good, but this year has made me doubt him big time.

I would think Al Jefferson would be a better fit for the Rockets.

Both deals are NOT team options. They are non-guaranteed but with a guarantee date of June 30, making them very similar to team options but with the advantage of being able to trade them between the end of the season and June 30.

Shamsports is 99%+ accurate on contracts, including the specifics regarding guarantee dates, etc. I will take Mark Deeks's word over your "belief" about Delfino any day. The fact that you "tend to agree" with the shamsports information is both inconsequential and frankly smacks of conceit on your part. (The 1-2 times EVER I've found shamsports to be imprecise--it wasn't even completely wrong--was when I got conflicting information from a source with knowledge of the applicable contract.)

On Brooks, I am VERY confident that Marc Stein's information is accurate about a June 30 guarantee date. I'll leave it at that.

I'm sure that Morey & Co. TRY to do what you are talking about (i.e., seeking longer control over the summer months), but these contracts are NEGOTIATED with counter-parties (agents) who don't always want to give those things away.

Sorry for the harshly-worded post, but you presume to know things which you do not know. At best, I would only assert that "it would be nice IF" some of your theories were true. Your emphatic assertion that such things are true simply leads others to confusion and spreads misinformation (whether that is your intent or not).

You are a very knowledgeable poster IMHO, but your assertions are just too strong to give you the credibility that you SHOULD have around here.

    "@nbastats: .@dwighthoward's averages over his last 3 games: 20.0pts, 16.3rbs, 4.3blks, 2.3stls w/ a 22.3% REB% & 93.6 DefRtg (@Lakers 3-0)"

    Howard is a beast
The idea of landing howard as FA and landing josh Smith in a S&T for asik is a great move.

That's the thing....you're not going to get Josh Smith "relatively cheaply". You always have to overpay on the FA market for big names, and somebody will definitely give him what he's looking for out of desperation.

But if you can get Josh Smith...I'm not sure there's a better fit than him for the Rockets.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I think I would NOW rather keep Asik than acquire Howard or Bynum. Both are damaged goods.

Dwight Howard is damaged goods? Have you even seen this dude play since the All Star Break? No one is scoring in the paint with him in there. He's been an animal.

Open your eyes. Howard is a superstar. He and Harden together would win the West.

I see you agree with my premise. I don't see where I have been definitive about anything though. Words like "I sense" and "I would not be surprised" do not portray certainty. I simply have a general feeling of what Morey is trying to accomplish. Don't claim to know anything for sure. But....if enough evidence points to the likelihood of an event....I do state it. Such as the Brooks signing. Too much evidence to deny that his release and signing were NOT a part of the trade discussions and most likely a piggy back transaction to coincide with the trade.

Now that we know and understand Brooks has actually given up $1 million for this to go down..........the first question that should be asked is why would he do that? Remember the bottom line for these guys is they are getting paid. Brooks is in his prime. He really can't afford to take a $1 million loss at this stage of his career. And although he will most likely get back that $1 million next season by playing somewhere (internationally), I can't see that that is really in his best interests to risk having to go outside of the US if he can't find a roster spot anywhere else in the NBA. When you look at the Brooks' situation from his and his agent's perspective, it's difficult to see giving up $1 million. Just as difficult to see as him giving up $3.4 million, which is what he gave up to become a free agent.

It is a given that agents and players do not want to simply give things away. They have to be paid or at least have a strong promise of being paid that they can trust. That's my point about renegotiations and modifications, etc. And that's my point about things we don't know about concerning these contracts and the negotiations that took place with them.

IF we are ever going to get close to figuring out what Morey is doing and where he is going next, we have to open our minds to the possibilities. Morey explores all the possibilities. For us to close our minds to possibilities means we will continue to be left scratching our noggins every time a deal goes down and then not understanding all the implications of that deal until the next deal goes down six months to a year later.

By the way, you may trust Shamsports but they are getting their information the same place everybody else is, from the rumor mill, from "sources", etc. While I like them and I visit their site frequently they are not the holy grail for contract information.

There is no OFFICIAL RELEASE of contract information. Everyone, including ESPN, Shamsports, and you and I are left talking to someone who knows someone and taking their word as gospel. While we all may know we have legit sources, we should keep an open mind about even what they say and realize that just because Stein reported it doesn't mean Stein knows EVERYTHING about the contract. He may not know everything about it and he simply may not have been told everything about it.

Patricia Bender puts it this way on her website:

    Her website addy is: http://www.eskimo.com/~pbender/contracts

I think it is important to remember this.
