The Knicks and Rockets are in the final stages of negotiating a blockbuster trade that would send Tracy McGrady to New York, with the Bulls still in the game based on the final issue of draft-pick compensation, CBSSports.com has learned.

The Knicks would get McGrady in exchange for Jared Jeffries, Larry Hughes, Jordan Hill and draft pick considerations. The deal hinges on the level of protection the Knicks are willing to put on a 2012 first-round pick that would go to the Rockets in the trade. The deal also would give Houston the right to swap first-round picks with the Knicks in 2011.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh is discussing the draft-pick proteciton issue with Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan, and once the Rockets receive word on the protection issue, they will choose between offers from the Knicks and Bulls, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said.

The Chicago Trade isn't real, it's just Morey playing mind games on New York

They can make it happen. Yoyo brought this up earlier today. The only way it can happen is if Houston can trade him for player that has more years left on his deal. K-Mart would be a prime example.

I can see Houston using Scola and Hughes' contact to pick someone up along with draft picks.

    *checks ESPN's attendance numbers*

Nah, not really. I still say bad example.

Anyway, can't wait until the deal is finally done. Hopefully Morey can still try and land Iggy. I was so set on landing him since the rumors first starting surfacing in late December.

Sounds like if there is protection, they'll choose Chicago, if there isnt protection, they'll go with NY?

They would likely have to have a trade already in place to flip Hughes to be able to make a deal in less than 24hrs. Who might be some possible targets they would go after?

Hell, there'd better be NO protection if we're taking back that scrub Jeffries.

You seriously do not watch any Rockets game if you're basing that from attendance records. That doesn't mean jack... Look at a mavs game and then look at a Houston game. Fan base in Houston sucks.

A lot of the hardcore Rockets fans don't even live in Houston.

top 5 protection is all I'd give in to. anything worse than that I'd say no deal unless they give us toney douglas too

Why do we want Hughes instead of Harrington, or is it that they won't give up Harrington?

I hope the picks have no protection.

I also think the Knicks can get screwed next summer. It really depends on LeBron. If he decides to go there then I think they get another top player easily. If he stays then I don't see why Wade picks them over the hometown (they have a future max dude in Rose probably). I don't see why Joe Johnson takes less money to go there, because truth be told...any of the other free agents (Amare, Bosh, Boozer, etc) aren't enough to transform them into an instant contender considering the rest of the roster. With LeBron for sure...with Wade maybe....but the others?

But I would still expect the picks not to be in the lottery....

Yeah, I don't watch Rockets games.

And I've watched some Mavs games this year. I see emptiness in their lower bowl. Try again...

Chicago's offer is better for the present and slight future but the Knicks deal will benefit us for a few years to come...knowing Morey he will choose the future.
