I don't think it would affect Scola's re-signing anymore than taking on Jeffries contract. Landry, Brooks and Yao going into 2011 may be affected; I haven't crunched the numbers.

What does that even mean? There's still 14 hours until the deadline.

We'd be getting guys who produce on the court, which is pretty appealing.

I think it doesn't matter. If NY can sign a max player this summer, they will make the playoffs. Even they sucks in free agent market, they only can resign Tmac, I believe they will make the playoffs next season.

That's valid. I just think Thomas will be a better player than Hill. I could be wrong about that. Miller and Hinrich would be a much bigger help this year than Hughes and Jeffries as well.

the team was never high on butler to begin with. i don't think morey seriously considered him.

however, iggy was high on his list but the sixers never budged.

Yeah, but how much protection do they want on the 2011 pick? I guess that's what matters. If that's also top 6...I mean, I don't expect the Rockets to be in the top 6....so if NY gets the 7th pick I'm good.

ESPN reported it was top 10, which would mean no lotto pick unless the Knicks finished 11th-14th worst record. Maybe Morey knocked them down to only 6. It would be an improvement.

I can't believe you're still bringing this up. The Sixers wanted more than just McGrady, namely a younger part of our core, and I don't blame Morey for telling them no. I'd much rather keep the pieces we have and add Hill + the draft picks, and then see what can be done in the Summer with those pieces.

I'm not sure about that, if the Knicks fail to get LeBron, Wade, or Amar'e and settle for Bosh. While, possibly signing other free agents, they could have a team that looks like this:

1 - Given that they'll have Lee (resign), Gallinari, T.Douglas, W.Chandler, and that's it. They could put a totally new roster together with some fairly decent players (even if they fail to get the King or the Flash).

    FAs

C - (if Lee decides not to come back) Brendan Haywood (if he doesn't resign with Dallas), Jermaine O'Neal, older Shaq, Brad Miller and tsk...tsk, though unlikely Yao Ming (if he decided to terminate his contract, but why would he do that though). I just threw him in there, since some posters would like a team without the burden of Yao.

PF - Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer, our own Chuck Hayes, Udonis Haslem, Tyrus Thomas, and a few more odd players.

SF - Matt Barnes, Rudy Gay, Mike Miller, Richard Jefferson, Kyle Korver, and Linas Kleiza (if he comes back to the NBA)

SG - M.Ginobili, R.Allen, T-Mac (), Roger Mason, Anthony Morrow, Josh Childress (if he opts out overseas or a team buys his rights) possibly Agent Zero (the Wizards will try to dump him at some point in the offseason).

PG - Luke Ridnour, Steve Blake, C.J. Watson, and the great Rafer Alston

Not an outstanding list, but could they put a playoff team together. I think they should be able to do that, if not heads should roll.

If they can draw Boozer or Bosh (maybe Amar'e), the Knicks should be better than what they are now, on one of those three signings with a partial skeleton of the current team. Next, they should try to resign David Lee, who make a good combo with the players above, though ... I have to wonder would struggle against larger front lines.

Afterwards, they should look at the T-Mac option...they might get preview of it after tomorrow. If he's decent, they could resign him for a decent price.

They could look at Ginobili, but I would skip over Ray Allen. One option I would look at, if I were them would be either Mason or Morrow (and possibly a trade that might could fetch...Monta Ellis).

The Knicks have several options, if the LeBron sweepstakes doesn't end up in Madison Square Garden.

Butler looked damned good helping the Mavs beat the Suns in Dallas tonight. I think he had 15, moved the ball well, and looked to be playing some very decent defense. And that's his first game with them. I wouldn't just assume that we didn't want him.

Agreed about Hinrich and Miller helping more this year, but the Rockets' goals are not based heavily on anything that happens THIS year.

While I love Kirk Hinrich as a player (I think that has been fairly well-documented on this BBS), I can understand the Rockets' aversion to taking on his long-term deal. With the Knicks deal, the Rockets would be set up beautifully for the summer of 2011.

In 2011, the Rockets will have a TON of players either coming off the books (Battier, Jeffries, Hayes), with team options/non-guaranteed contracts (Andersen, Dorsey, Taylor, Budinger) or coming up for new deals (Yao, Brooks, Landry). In a summer where the salary structure will likely become much more "owner-friendly", Les and the Rockets will be in a position to build a team with NO BAD CONTRACTS (except maybe Yao's new deal, but he's a cash cow) and a bunch of great draft picks. Meanwhile, other teams will be floundering over the (lower) salary cap, not able to appreciably improve their teams in the near term.

Question... Can the following trade scenario work as it would make all the sense in the world for Morey to target with Knicks:

    - Relent on the draft pick top 10 protection
    - Have the Knicks trade Harrington for T Thomas/expiring James
    - Then send Thomas, Jeffries, James, Hill, and one pick to the Rockets
    - Rockets buyout James

Can the Knicks make the trade with the Bulls and then turn around and send the Rocket's Thomas/James?

If so, the Rocket's could essentially take either a second pick off the table or at best get over the protection issue because they would score two quality young big men?

Something like this seems realistic... thoughts?

Quick question...What were the other deals that were on the table on TMAC...Do we know?..Because in a way I feel like were doing TMAC a favor and trading him to the team(s) of his choice?...I cant wait to see what tommorow brings; I will be making a prayer before I go to bed tonight for some good assets

76ers never wanted to trade Iggy. They were testing the market to see what they could get and promptly left. The Philly beat writer said the 76ers flat out refused the Rocket's offer of T-mac and Budinger.

Philly writers saying that Stefanski doesn't want to make any moves
Philly writers saying Ed refused trading Iggy for Budinger and T-mac.

Here's something hard and fast to consider as the trading deadline comes closer and it's becoming less and less likely the Sixers will make a franchise-changing deal:

I think if we weren't dealing with New York we'd not know very much about this proposed trade... seems everything is coming out of NY (or T-Mac) while Houston is tight-lipped.

I am resigned to trusting Morey while I sleep tonight. Let's hope I wake up on the West Coast to some excellent news and a new mega-thread.

    Good night Rockets fans.

I've been saying this all along, my gut feeling is that we will part with one of our rotational players, such as Scola or Battier in a seperate deal which no one is talking about. Remember when we traded Alston for Lowry, no one knew about it. I have a feeling all this talks with New York and Chicago are just smoke screens for a even bigger deal which will help us out now and quite possibly in the future as well.
