Can I just say that the Bulls and Knicks playing back to back nights last night and tonight is pretty ironic and useful.

That will be my new offer made on Feb 28th if he rejects the initial offer.

Then he followed that up with

    WojYahooNBA

"I guess Chicago could emerge again," a source involved in talks told Y! Sports, "but it doesn't look that way now."

It looks like the only thing holding back Knicks deal is protection. Ultimately, we hold the leverage there, because if they want the chance at two FA's, getting rid of Jefferies is the only way. It's a risk, but ultimately something that I think will happen.

that's my spin, the stuff in quotes is Woj

    I think there is...

You ask for the moon, then lower your price...lower your price...lower your price...and the other team thinks you will just lower it some more. It also makes it seem like you think the other guy is a fool right off the bat.

That isn't even realistic. Tyrus, Gibson, Miller AND two first round picks. If I'm the Bulls GM I hang up in Morey's face right after laughing. He's exactly right...why trade all of your frontcourt and two picks for a guy you don't know who can play? That is just silly.

Because it looks aesthetically more appealing to free agents, at first glance. Problem is, it's too simplistic of an analysis. Teams make mistakes all the time. If you're willing to trust Donnie Walsh and the Knicks' front office given their history over Daryl Morey, go right ahead.

Once again, it is impossible for any reporter to actually lay out the current offer being discussed. It's all about a particular point of contention. Is Hill in or out? How many picks are in or out?

Frankly, if the 2011 NY pick is unprotected, I could probably live with lottery protection on the 2012 pick (with reduced protection over time until, say, 2015).

If that deal (Jeffries/Hughes/Hill/2011 unprotected pick swap/2012 lottery protected pick) is still on the table, then Morey should just take it.

But who the hell knows EXACTLY what the current deal is.

Certainly not ESPN, Yahoo! or CBSSportsline.

ONLY if they want the player that much.

I bet this is why Chicago has moved on, they have other GMs to talk to if Morey is going to ask of them their entire frontcourt and two draft picks.

Chicago is trying to get picks via a 3rd team to give us. If DM waits too long, and Chicago announces they can't get those picks (or just lets NY know), the Knicks will start lowering their offer. They would like to have T-Mac for this season, but they don't need him. The only other thing they have to gain is by lowering their team salary even more, by losing Jefferies, and maybe Hill. Is that worth giving up picks for? Maybe not.

NY it is then. Both teams gonna have to meet in the middle for a deal.

I find it funny that everyone thinks NY will fold and basically give the rockets everything they want from Hill, to multiple picks and limited or no protection due to the fact of it being their great chance or "one of a lifetime" chance as someone called it, to sign two max players... Yet in the very same thread and very next thought are espousing how great the NY picks will be because of the sheer unlikeliness of them being able to get two marquee players.

So my questions is, what is more unlikely, the possibility of the knicks being able to effectively utilize having cap space for two max players or that the knicks believe their entire hopes rest soley on getting maximum cap space, thus causing them to fold? I mean if it is seemingly so unlikely to everyone that the knicks can get lebron/wade/jj and bosh/amare/boozer then wouldnt the knicks also be aware of this? And thus perhaps not be so eager to mortgage everything on the slim hope of it happening?

Totally agree and the knicks not having the assets to trade is where they may strike out this year because they cannot offer that sixth year. Having enough capspace may not get it done for them. Bosh is probably the guy Morey will be after imo. I actually like our chances better than the knicks to land one of the big fish whom ever that may be.

I guess NY wants lottery protected. But Morey probabaly wants no protected or top 3 protected picks. I think they will probably end by top 5 or top 8 protected picks.
