If that is the case as you said, why don't the knicks keep Jeffries + picks? They could use those to trade for a star player. In addition, they have already had enough cap space to sign a max player.

I know you're blinded by T-Mac hate, or w/e. I don't like the guy much either, but in general, the media sees a player that's worked hard to come back, and trained with Grover, but being stripped of a chance to play. If we sit him the rest of the season, it would look bad on the Rockets part. T-Mac left Toronto on his own terms, because of lucrative money all while being near home (as he hated Toronto), and Orlando traded McGrady. We've already seen the media sort of take sides with McGrady.

This is in the scenario we sit him out, which all likely wouldn't happen. . Please, reading is all about comprehension.

Because No superstar will go to NY alone. At least not the superstar they want ie. Lebron.

They have a chance to have 2 max players. That's a once in a lifetime chance.

Because they want to be able to do it with cleared cap space, they don't really have the players to get it done in trade, But Houston with where they are cap wise needs to do it this way

According to cat's logic, they could use Jeffries+picks to trade for a star player this summer. In that case, I don't think a superstar would mind to go to NY. He wouldn't be 'alone'.

How do you figure he's an assest in a sign and trade? Who's going to want to trade for a player that they aren't even sure can still play. They will buy him out for the right price. The right price being enough to get under the luxury tax.

so what are the latest offers?

Knicks: Larry Hughes, Jared Jeffires, and swap 2011 first round pick for T-Mac?
Bulls: Tyrus Thomas, Brad Miller, John Salmons, and 1st round pick?

T-Mac is fairly useless in any S&T this summer. For starters, he counts as his last salary plus 5% until we renounce him or re-sign him to a new deal. This puts a big crimp in anything else we want to do. Secondly, the only value would be if another player wanted him at whatever he's worth ($8 million?), and they didn't have cap space. Therefore, they'd want to send us a player with matching salaries. This would only interest us if the player coming to us were worth his contract, in which case, the other team isn't going to want to let them go for T-Mac.

Any deal that is made won't be announced until Thursday. there are more
teams that want McGrady then New York or Chicago and by doing a deal today could cost the Rockets a better deal. My prediction if there is a trade
we will hear about it late morning or early afternoon though it could be announced at 3:59PM EST

How the hell did fantasy news get that scoop? If that's true, I understand why they'd ask for Scola back. That's a pretty good haul - I imagine Salmons is included.

Lots of info and misinformation out there regarding the potential Nate Robinson-to-Boston trade. I have been told there are many moving parts, with some of the principals mentioned as coming to New York including Marquis Daniels, Bill Walker, J.R. Giddens and possibly Eddie House. Robinson's base-year compensation status is a complicating factor, but not insurmountable. If the Boston talks fail, Nate would accept only a trade to the L.A. Lakers (he has veto power).

On the Tracy McGrady front, I am told the main sticking point is whether there would be lottery-protection on the first-round pick going to Houston in 2012. Can't see that being a deal-breaker for the Rockets, but Daryl Morey can take this one down to the wire if he so chooses.

Also hearing the same thing Chad Ford reported earlier: Knicks can do Darko Milicic for Brian Cardinal, giving New York a perennial member of Bill Simmons' All-Mokeski second team.

No such thing as asking too much in a trade

Also remember for the Knicks. A buyout of Tmac doesn't solve their cap problem...Jeffries will still be on the team.

So Morey still has some leverage unless the Knicks have someone else willing to take Jeffries from them.

Exactly. Let's say Bosh decides he wants to leave Toronto. He'll flirt with teams like the Knicks to force Toronto's hand, but he doesn't want to lose money and he probably doesn't want to go to a losing team. He just wants Toronto to be able to trade him, thinking that they'll lose him for nothing if they don't.

Toronto will say that's fine, but we'll meet you halfway - pick somewhere we can get decent value. Players respect the Rockets as an organization, and in Bosh's case, he's from Texas. The Rockets would then be able to offer Landry (stud young PF, cheap), Jeffries ($7 mil expiring), a scrub and a pick - there's no way another team could match up that well.

It's a perfect setup. Teams like the Knicks, much like most historically who try to load up with stars via free agency - will be used for leverage. But in the Knicks case, if they do this deal - they have virtually zero long-term assets to intrigue teams into a S&T. Unless a player like LeBron loves them so much that he's willing to hold a gun to his team's head and say New York and only New York (doubtful)... they'll be played. And the teams with the assets will take advantage.

Every GM is going to counter. So of course you set the bar high at first.
