It's not a pipe dream if he is on the roster. Also, Drummond doesn't have a promising future, he has the potential to be great, but nothing is guaranteed with him either. I'd take the sure thing in Howard.

I don't remember houston being in the mix until late. Tracy wanted to play with a big man, but they weren't trading him to pacers. Houston swooped for the kill.

So you would rather take your chances on two possibles and pass up the sure thing? There's no way Les lets anyone outbid us for DHoward, and besides that where else would he go? LA can't pay him, OKC can't pay him, Miami can't pay him, Dallas ... you see where I'm going with this.

Seem silly folks are debating whether we should trade 5th pius 8th picks for Dwight, let's hope we get these picks first.

You're right, it never ends up being anything close to what everyone was speculating. But it seems like a very Morey-like move in ways that nobody seems to be mentioning. The fact that the teams being targeted are Sacramento and Toronto are important because I believe they can take on salary without sending any back. Therefore, any combination of Lowry, Dalembert, 14 & 16 that returns 5 & 8 is instantly a salary clearing move.

Martin and Scola are productive players whose salaries would allow them to be packaged with 5 & 8 for Dwight. So if something similar to this happens, acquiring Howard actually opens up a lot more salary room for the Rockets to add a piece or two that makes the likelihood of losing Howard at the end of the year much more slim. While it may ultimately never happen, it seems like the kind of move Morey would be angling for.

The rockets leak stuff all the time. I'm not saying who did it, but the rockets are always coming up.

Maybe, maybe not. But in this case, I see no reason for them to do it.

If we manage to pull a trade like this to grab Dwight and $16 mill in cap space, why don't we go after someone else other than D-Will??? Why not KG, or Gordon or someone like that. Dragic is good enough for us at the PG

My original post wasn't intended to be if they should or not, but where such a deal would leave Houston financially if they could turn them into Howard.

DWill plays on aonther level than Gordon or someone like that. IMO if you want to seriously contend with OKC and Miami you have to swing for the fences and get as many people from Dream Team 2012 as you possibly can.

Rockets are always coming up because they need to stay relevant. More people hear, talk, and think Rockets, the higher the chances of a deal being offered and brokered.

Or should I say as many of the "elite" players in the league as you can get.

If you want to play it safer, try and draft Meyers and Barnes.

Why would drafting a big white crybaby stiff be safer?

    Without D-will, Dwight leaves.

Let's ask Hasheem Thabeet or Kwame Brown.

The Artest deal was cuz Donte Greene all of a sudden went berzerk in the summer league and made himself coveted. No way of predicting that.

The Martin deal, nothing was heard. Though McGrady to the Knicks was talked about for months. And Martin was always a "Moreyball" efficient target.

I'm thinking if this was leaked, it so Houston can look like the most desparate hardest pursuer like they're "outworking" everyone. Hoping their desparation somehow makes then a more legitimate destination for Howard. But Houston might not get ANY picks in a trade, let alone Dwight Howard out of the picks.

The kid is only 18 years old. He will be coming to a team with a former champion as his coach. A defensive coaching staff and loads of big man support. He will not be a bust. He may not be a star either, but he will give this team what they have been needing since the loss of Yao. A strong, young, decent rim protector.

I keep seeing people looking for "red flags", while at the same time, ignoring the one most important fact. He has very good lateral movement for a guy his size. Which means he will be able to defend almost immediately.
Although he would not have been my 1st pick in this range, i still see why the Rockets should get him.
