I would rather take a random scrub than Arenas. At least we won't be paying the scrub 85 million over 5 years or something ridiculous along those lines.
.......................There you go pardna. If Washington did indeed offer Gilbert for McGrady, they knew this would be rejected, but they also likely are willing to pay more. The question is...how much more? And for all you guys that think Arenas is over the hill, dude is 27 YEARS OLD!!! He is not old. He's had a couple of injuries. But when his contract expires, he will only be 31-32 yrs old. Bad value contract???? Right now it is. It has no where to go but UP! Buy low, sell high. Obviously, McGrady for Arenas straight swap doesn't work and we won't do it. But what if Washington tossed in their unprotected first rounder and Haywood for McGrady and Cook??? Now, you've got a devalued asset with no place to go but up. Worst case scenario, you toss Gilbert out there with the 2nd unit and let him fire away for 20 mpg and light it up. It should already be clear that he can still score. Trading McGrady is all about acquiring assets, assets, assets.....to use in another big trade this offseason. It's all about stacking the deck.
Golden State had some interest in Arenas no? If we can three-way Arenas there maybe we can work something out? I would still love to have Butler but I doubt they would do that to Flip Saunders.
I don't think Arenas is a good fit but at least he has a record to 2nd round. I would consider this as an reasonable option.
If Caron Butler or Antwan Jamison were included in the deal, I would have been for it. "Tough Juice" would be a great addition/replacement for McGrady. BTW...anyone catching these blurbs on HoopsHype about the Rockets not being opposed to bringing Tracy back? It sounds like they may try to fix the relationship. At this point, I don't know what's going on in the least.
I would hope so. Arenas is the anti-Morey. I'm all for being involved in a three-way deal but NOT if it involves us taking back an insanely hideous and last-of-its-kind type contract like Arenas has.
Thanks for the heads up, just saw this on via HoopsHype on Twitter http://twitter.com/ChrisMannixSI/status/7142848169
Yeah, I thought that was incredibly interesting. It would not surprise me if DM works something out with T-mac, allows him to play some more and evaluates him at the deadline. Talk about drama...Jermaine Taylor must be psyched!
Tmac/Cook for Arenas/Haywood/Mike James works out great for both. They get 2 expirings, we get a young center and a dynamic scorer and an expiring in James.
There isn't anything they can add that would make me want to see Arenas in a Rockets' uniform. It's nothing personal against the guy it's just that his whole game/style of play is like a smaller, poor imitation of McGrady and that was never going to win us anything. Bringing in Arenas is like telling me the Rockets have no interest in a Championship for the next five years.
Pretty much. Even though i'm thoroughly opposed to the idea, I had to play around on ESPN's Trade Checker just to see if there was a deal possible that wouldn't put me in the insane asylum. McGrady for Arenas/Haywood/Young or Blatche + 2010 unprotected first-round pick is the only thing I could come up.....and i'm still not interested.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4777423 Pretty interesting tidbit. This could mean one of two things: (1) Morey views McGrady's "sign-and-trade" value as greater than any savings the team could get from a post-trade deadline buyout. Remember, the Rockets can still get under the luxury tax this season just by paying someone to take Brian Cook off their hands. Probably a future pick, as well. But still. or (2) Morey is bluffing, getting teams (many of whom would otherwise just wait until the team buys out T-Mac after the trade deadline in order to sign him as a free agent) to up their trade offers for Tracy, fearing that "it's now or never" to get him while his value is low.
I have confidence in Morey, but I think the return we get might be a letdown. If we were trading Tracy before the significant injuries, I would have been pumped to see what the Rockets could acquire. I will not be thrilled or remotely satisfied with a NY trade or for someone with a terrible long-term contract. If Curry becomes a Rocket, I may lose it.
