Can anyone explain why we'd have to give up so much? I always figured the situation was either the Raptors lose Bosh and get nothing in return or they work a sign-and-trade agreement and at least salvage something in return. In that case, cant we just unload Jeffries, Anderson, and one semi-decent player who wont play if Bosh comes on board (Scola?)? Wasnt Jordan Hill our planned backup for Yao? Why are they willing to part with Brooks? I guess what I'm saying is, if thats what it HAS to take to get Bosh, okay, but shouldnt the Raptors be happy to get anything in return?
We'd be stupid to part with AB. He's the cheapest borderline allstar in the league, and he opens things offensivley when hitting his shots. Without him our offense would be back to average. Chase might have to go
Scola is a free agent. If he has told the Rockets that he doesn't want to go to the Raptors, then they can't make him. If Scola signs with another team and the Rockets match the contract, they can't trade him. Sign and trades are only possible with a clause included in the contract by the home team that allows them to trade a player immediately. Normally, there is a 6 waiting period, before a player can be traded after a free agent signs a new contract. Since they are matching an offer on a contract by another team, there is no clause that allows them to trade the player immediately. Scola would also be a BYC player in a sign and trade. When a player receives more than a 20% raise from their previous contract year, only 50% of their salary will count for trade. Houston would have to trade more salary to Toronto to make the deal work. Toronto may not want to take on more salary than Bosh's Max.
Wow? Really don't want to give up Bosh because it might cost us Brooks? Were not talking about CP3 here people. Brooks is a borderline top 15 of all the point guards in the League.. Bosh = Top 10-15 Player in the WHOLE League..
Picture this: A guy has a gun at the head of a hostage. He threatens to shoot the hostage. He's surrounded by cops, weapons drawn. If he pulls the trigger, he will be shot immediately, which is against his best interests. He still has a little negotiating power, because you have to believe he might fulfil his threat, even if it is against his best interests. For a more interesting version of such a conundrum, see Indecent Proposal (1993).
I dont mind trading jordan hill because were getting bosh in return. But please dont trade Aaron Brooks
The difficulty in making BYC trades work lies in the fact that the player's salary is one number to one team, but another number to the other team. You can structure the trade between two teams, but frequently, a third team is brought in to make it easier to match the numbers. NBA Salary Cap FAQ # 75
If Morey really tried to convince Bosh that him, Bron, and Wade would only win 45 games he had to lose some credibility. You could fill the team with d league players and get that based off the first three. Heck DD and myself playing with those guys could get to 40 wins.
I think if Brooks is the make it or break it player, we need to "sell high" and include him. I think Morey likes Lowry enough (and more importantly, Bosh) to let Brooks go. Heck, he has already said Les told him to match Lowry and Scola no matter what. Tough call from a fans standpoint bc I love having AB....but I think Lowry + Bosh more than makes up for losing AB
For trading the player immediately, isnt that whats going to happen to Bosh and the Raptors? In a sign and trade, wouldnt they sign him to some short term deal and then trade him to the rockets where they can extend that offer? As for Scola- if, hypothetically, he had the opportunity to make significantly more money playing for the Raptors than he would elsewhere on the market, why would he be opposed to going? As for the BYC player issue, isnt that why we're giving both Jeffries and Anderson? Both come off the books at the end of the season and they get Scola for an extended period of time. Obviously the above scenario assumes a lot (raptors being interested in scola, scola agreeing to the deal, etc.), but I'm not sure that those are unreasonable assumptions to make....
Some many of us fall in love with the players we have. Yes Brooks is awesome but if we have to trade his to get a SUPERSTAR so be it. If Kyle can develop a consistent outside jump shot then we are in business. If we do trade Brooks and Kyle is our starter I hope we sign Shannon Brown and a back up C. Then we are set and ready to bang with the big boys. We are an ELITE team.
If Brooks and Hill are included in this deal, you can guarantee that DM is gonna squeeze out more than just Chris Bosh... I can see something like this going down with DM's "wizard powers"... Rockets get: Chris Bosh - approx 17mil Jarret Jack - approx 5mil Future 1st round picks Total incoming: approx 22mil Toronto gets: Hill - approx 3mil Brooks - approx 2 mil Andersen - approx 2 mil Jefferies - approx 7 mil Hayes - approx 2 mil 3 mil TE Future 2nd round picks Total Incoming: approx 19mil
If we do get Bosh, the deal is not going to look like a steal a la Morey's previous transactions. In fact, it's most likely going to feel like we're giving quite a bit. But that's what Morey is going to have to do in order to get a player that will elevate our chances to win it all.
