I agree that TJ as a fit may not be the best solution for the rockets do to his 3 pt shooting, but think about all the pressure he would relieve from t-mac as someone else could be the creator for the offense. The first need for this team(provided shane stays) is a swingman capable of playing 20-25 minutes a night off the bench to rest battier and mcgrady. But i'm all for getting a quality young pg like ford if the price is right and the opportunity is there.
I like TJ, just not on this team. The man can ball, but his health issues scare me, plus he is somewhat overpaid. Can you imagine your PG going down and being stuck with salary cap issues for the remaining of his contract? Plus heck, I would be cringing everytime I saw him go to the basket. Good player, but no to Ford imo.
Who knows? The Raptors have a $14 million lawsuit against the Spanish basketball federation. There could be some problems there.
Just because the contract is insured doesnt mean it wont count against the cap. Les might not have to pay the 25 million out of pocket, but Im pretty sure that is still money that counts against us luxury tax wise. Also, TJ Ford is not CP3. Makes it even worse when our other guards are also tiny.
true adelman's offense isnt about threes but the rockets offense is. its stuck in them like the defense JVG pushed on them before he left. why else is it that the only times we seem to win easily or go on streaks is when our outside shooters are on?
No way. This guy is selfish and totally killed the Raps chemistry by being discontent to come off the bench. Had Calderon started during the Playoffs they might have gotten out of the first round. Orlando wasn't that good.
If we bench Rafer, I am sure he will demand a trade. Rafer will be our starting PG unless we get someone alot better than him. So personally, I don't think Hinrich, Ford, or Calderon will play for Houston unless Rafer is part of that trade. Chris Duhon and maybe Ben Gordon are our best options. That is just my view.
Not exactly. The Raptors were 10 losses and 3 wins with Calderon starting in March. There was also a 5 game losing streak that month. They were 6 losses and 6 wins for the rest of regular season with Ford starting.
True, but this could possible be solved with the MLE. It looks like the PG upgrade would have to come via trade, shipping out an asset plus BJax's expiring contract.
The only way I'd go for Ford is if Aaron were dealt. However, I'm not sure that would solve one of the main problems with the position: SIZE. While I think the contract is too big, I'd rather have Hinrich. His outside shooting is good enough, but he brings a solid defensive presence at the 1 that the Rockets do not have. He is a former All-Defensive 2nd Team selection (if I remember correctly), and wouldn't get shoved around, posted up, or driven around by the likes of Deron Williams, Chris Paul, and Tony Parker. I don't think Calderon is worth discussing. He is too efficient, and there are other teams that would be willing to throw in more talent and cash than the Rockets can offer. With his game, I can see him getting a HUGE contract from someone.
In order to get a player like CP3 for cheap, you gotta have a good eye for talent. Get an undervalued player from another team or draft someone exceptionally good. Look around the league, I'm sure there are a few diamonds in the rough sitting on the pine that could probably tear it up if given the chance.
Is he selfish for wanting to start? I remember he was honest about it; Calderon walked the high road many weeks ago but has since dropped that B.S. and said, You want me here, you start me. Granted, he did the right thing. But I can't blame Ford for not playing the milquetoast. If we actually tried to trade for him, I'll have to trust Morey; but I wonder if we need three versions of Mr Glass on the Rockets.
I agree! Ford has better stats than Rafer's and better defender than Rafer. Ford it is! As long as it is not a Fix Or Repair Daily, or in other word injusry prone we are defifitely ok with that!
If the Rockets pick up Ford, I'll put my money on Aaron Brooks as the guy one the way out. It makes sense for both teams. For the Rockets, the roster does not need 2 under 6'0 point guards on the team. Ford/Alston rotation is better than an Alston/Brooks rotation. Ford is basically an evolved Aaron Brooks, except his strength is passing and not the 3. And the Rockets need another point guard that knows how to set up an offense. For the Raptors, they let Calderon start and get Ford-lite to back him up. The formula remains the same. 1-2 punch in the point guard spot rotating shooting and quickness. Also, Bobby Jackson won't be traded until the trade deadline, when the trade values are extreme. The bargains and the untouchables will be well established around the deadline. Personally, I would love to have Calderon on the team. But that's looking more unlikely now that the Raptors see Ford's trade interest. I wouldn't mind having Ford, but I'd rather have Hinrich. Calderon Hinrich Ford ...in that order. There's good and bad in every situation. But the one constant is that the Rockets would have a legit point guard and can attend the legit point guard party in the west.
You can't get a player like CP3 for cheap...you draft him. There's also no way New Orleans lets him go. You can have a good eye for talent, but sometimes it takes a little luck. Even though someone had the good insight to bring a very good player like Calderon into the league, he's no Chris Paul. Other times, peoples' good eye for talent leads them to go for prospects like Spanoulis and Darko. Unless the player is a CP3-like talent that you'd build around, you go for the guy that fits into what you're trying to do. That doesn't mean go after every point guard available, either.
I like TJ 's speed, penetration, and he is a pretty good passer too with a decent mid-range shot who can create scoring chances for himself and others, but he is short, physically weak,he can't defend big guards and would be better on a fast break team.He also has a big contract. I would rather take a stronger, relatively good 3 point shooter with decent passing and defensive ability player like Duhon as a backup PG even though he isn't as good as TJ because he would come cheap and wouldn't have the health risk factors like Ford has.
Can any stat gurus post head-to-head stats of Ford vs. the west guards (Deron Williams, Tony Parker, Chris Paul, etc.) I'd be interested to see how he faired against potential playoff opponents.
