Morey is smarter than this. Trading your main trade asset (Bobby Jackson) for an undersized point guard that can't shoot, making $9million, and who is as likely to play 50 games as he is 82 is not getting value. Please stay away from Ford.
You're right that his health is a concern, but in my opinion it's something that you're either willing to take a chance with as an organization or you're not. Once you've decided to accept it, then I don't think it should be held against a player when comparing his on court abilities to another. What it boils down to for me is that anybody can have a career ending injury at any moment. You take greater chances with someone like T.J., but everyone is one wrong play away from disaster anyway. Might as well get the most talented guys you can. And for the record, I stated before that I don't think PG is our most pressing need. In fact I would put it toward the bottom of the list. I was just comparing Alston and Ford's production is all.
Well, we almost agree then. If we could fill out other needs first then I might take a flyer on TJ over Alston, but not before then.
All this stress over the PG position, when we have more pressing needs at the SG/SF and need a third scorer. Ford is a good point guard, the only worry is he is not a good 3pt shooter, (his percentages are lower than Rafers,) also he is injury prone, both Yao and Tmac are injury prone it would be nicer to add a player who does not regularly end up on the DL. Calderon is out of reach cause the Raptors don't want to let him go. I see alot of trades where we are offering our bench players for other teams starters. Consider Toronto or the other teams point of view and ask why would they want a bunch of our bench players.
well crap..y'all are right. hmmm...so Travis Outlaw's BYC status also expires July 1st? I thought he'd be a great pick-up.
I honestly dont think he's worth 9 mil. He's a good player but he wont fit well in Rockets plan. We need a pg who shoots threes well, just like Mike Bibby used to be. He's a good penetrating guard, but that also increase the chance of him getting hurt. Does anyone know if he plays good defense? He seems to be those kind of PGs that pay no attention on D and get posted up by Deron Williams type of PGs.
I'd rather go after Chris Paul, but the Hornets wouldn't be so keen on moving him. The Raptors want to keep Calderon. The undersized, injury proned Ford might be the only option we can get for what we're willing to give up. I don't see the Rockets moving Battier, or Scola for only a marginal upgrade at a position.
how come all the "i want gerald green bc hes from houston" people arent saying the same thing for ford? i like ford because he is one of the fastest pgs out there but his 3 point percentage is not strong enough for a team like us that relies on it. his height and weight are a liability as well on the defensive end for a defensive minded team such as us but he can probably make up for it with his quickness. i still would like to see him play for us but only if we dont have to lose much for him.
Like some others have said, I don't want to trade for someone who's not durable. Hinrich averaged a hair under 78 games a season over 5 years. That's the definition of durable, IMO. If a choice is between Ford and Hinrich, I'd go with Hinrich. He turns the ball over less (fewer turnovers in more minutes), is far better from the 3pt line (TJ just shouldn't shoot them, unless the clock is running out and he has to!), his field goal % was improving every year, until last season, and he's averaged 35 minutes for 5 seasons. The last goes back to the durability thing. If we could hang on to Rafer as a backup, that'd be great, but Hinrich is a big upgrade as a starter, IMO, and I won't cry a river if Rafer goes to Chicago. And everyone remembers Van Gundy commenting on his excellent defense.
Always like Hinrich and immediately thought he was expendable when the Bulls got a Top 2 pick. Good ball handler that can shoot, also plays suprisingly good D. Been a HUGE TJ Ford fan since his Willowridge/UT days and the guy is about as good as a pure PG as you can get. Unfortunately he isn't that great of a shooter and is undersized. As much as I would like to see Ford in a Rockets uni, he isn't the type of PG we need.
TJ Ford is a lot better finishing at the basket than Rafer or Brooks, not to mention he can get to the rack. He would be a great asset. I'm tired of people talking about his inability to shoot the three when that was JVG's offense. Adelman is more about the mid-range game(which TJ can shoot better than Rafer, Brooks, or Hinrich) and getting buckets in the paint. The Rockets don't need a Steve Novak PG, at least, not as much as JVG's offense. Last year, the Rockets still ran a JVG offense, even Adelman said that he didn't change much.
No.1 target should be Kirk Hinrich! We'll get TJ Ford if Toronto is willing to accept our bench players for him in the trade, which they won't...so no TJ Kirk Hinrich fits us a lot more than TJ does, although I think we have bigger priorities than TJ
