I love when clutchfans overreact to a non news like this one. This "Houston wants Landry back" was mentioned when supposedly Houston wanted Cousins for AB (most likely a rumor based on Sac GM) Now, the "Houston wants Landry back", is being mentioned because, maybe Scola and Hill can be traded. I love the Idea of Paterson starting and Landry backing him up, playing time depending on matchups and performances. Landry to Houston makes sense if something like this happened: Balkman Harrington are the bad contracts that we take from Denver. Ely, Carter and Carter to SacTown helping Denver losing some payroll and because they are expirings (and because they get AB) Sac would not mind taking them. The most difficult part in a Melo trade is always Denver, I STILL think they want to make a playoff run after the Melo era (instead of going extremely young like it has been rumored). Look at this lineup: Nene / Andersen Scola / Hill (or K mart if they don´t trade him) Casspi / Budinger Afflalo / JR Billups / Lawson I like the balance of it (defense/offense), they have the floor general in Billups, they par Nene with another skilled big man in Scola, they get a better future with the addiction of Hill, Budinger, Casspi and a NY 1st round pick (protected), they get a huge flexibility, because they have at least 40M in expirings (Yao Martin and JR). This trade can almost be impossible, but my point is that DM will not trade any of our players for Landry RIGHT NOW, what he would do, if he loses Scola and Hill, is go after Landry in the same trade (as I mentioned above) or go after him in FA. Scola for Landry???? Seriously............. (even if I thought that Landry is a better player, it doesn´t make sense from an asset stand point, Scola market value >>>>>>>>>>>> Landry) PeAcE
That was before adding Patterson and Hill (even Miller). I may like Landry better than all of them, but it would still be a marginal add, and I'd rather see what Hill and Patterson can do. The Rockets are already a great offensive team. This is coming from someone who loves Landry.
love landry but i dont think he would fit well with this team. he has fire and passion and this team doesnt
This team keeps making dumb decisions. We need a superstar. Not more role players. There is no reason to get this guy back. I am really sick of people acting like Morey is a God with all the stupid moves the team is making. More role players aren't going to solve anything. We actually get worse by trading for him.
In case you haven't noticed Morey IS trying to aquire a "superstar". The problem is no superstar has been traded in what...two years. What "stupid" move has Morey made? He went after Bosh in FA but you can't make someone sign here. All Morey has done is make solid trades and basketball decisions to put us into postition to make a deal when/if a "superstar becomes available. In the case of "getting worse" by trading for Landry...how can you say that when you have no idea what the deal would be? If Morey can make another solid trade that would favor the team then that would be another chip he has to aquire said "superstar".
I would say that Scola is a better offensive player than Landry. Except for explosiveness and you could argue 4 quarter scoring, although I am unfamiliar with Landry ever having the success he did last year in another season. Landry seemed to be a better offensive rebounder, but I would give Scola th edge on the defensive boards. Defense is Landry, but not by much. I would be all about bringing Landry back if Scola is jettisoned elsewhere.
Like others have already mentioned, it only makes sense if we deal Scola as part of a bigger deal. Scola/Landry was exciting but a complete layup drill defensively -- a problem that still persists even without him. Having a reunion does nothing for us unless this is in response to a preceding roster move. And to answer Clutch's question regarding Landry-for-Hill -- No, I wouldn't do that trade.
Terrance Williams was a stupid move. It did nothing for us at all. We lost a pick over that deal. He isn't good trade bait and doesn't fill any voids we have. That was a trash deal. In case you haven't noticed many teams have been willing to trade superstars lately. Danny Granger is now available. Iggy has been available. G-Force is available. Demar DeRozen is getting upset in Toronto. Golden State has recently said that all of their players are available. Nene is upset. OJ Mayo is up for grabs. Face it. All of the top teams in the West make deals happen and got better this past off season and are still continuing to get better. Dallas is making tons of trades. The Lakers added a couple centers and guards. San Antonio made moves. Oklahoma City is getting better everyday with their stars. We on the other hand have no franchise player, only trade for role players and trash and the fans are extremely ignorant and think things are just going to work out because we have some sort of basketball God in the front office. What had Morey done to get us where we need to be? What has actually happened to make us better? We aren't even .500, the players don't seem to care and we will miss the play offs again while getting crap in the draft. Something big needs to happen or we will face another decade of mediocrity
Bring Back Landry !!! Trade Hill's Ass ASAP.. that dude will never get it.. His IQ is damn low!! We need to start winning and Carl brings that attitude..
Oh but thats where your wrong. Obviously, defense is the problem but nobody on this current rockets roster wants to play defense and nobody we could bring in would immediately improve the defense anyway. Much like the Texans, the Rockets offense looks very good, because we have nice stats and we score a lot of points. But in the crunch time, our best players don't come through and we struggle in the 4th quarter and second half especially... If you can remember back to last year in the first half. Landry was a 4th Q monster and led the league at one point in scoring in the 4th. He could be somewhat of a go to guy down the stretch and he certainly is an X-factor. something about his game helped the rockets get a lot of close wins... he is tough, and exactly what the rockets have been missing. Im not saying he is the savior to win us a title, but he could probably get us in the playoffs... and his defense isnt as bad as you think, he looks like bill russell next to scola.
Unless Landry has transformed into a 7 footer who can shutdown opposing big men or if we're shipping out Hill&Scola for a player of such nature, then I don't see why we do it. Don't get me wrong, I loved Landry during his time here, I think he was great and I enjoyed watching him play for us. But it's a business. Very rarely does one player stay on one team for their whole career. Hell, even Hakeem had a stint with the Raptors. Players will always come and go, but the franchise, and it's fans always stay the same.
Carl Landry would look GREAT... playing next to Tim Duncan, Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, Kevin Garnett, Dwight Howard, Amare, Serge Ibaka, Joachim Noah, Tyson Chandler, or Dirk Nowitski... I could list more but need to finish reading that article about a guy cloning Otis Thorpe.
Same here. There is no point of having potential when the player does not have heart. Without talent, talent is nothing. With heart, little talent like HAYES can help a team.
We could use the 4th quarter scoring. But, I really want to see more defense. If Landry comes in, I hope Scola goes out. If we bring in some good defenders, PLUS we bring in Landry for the 4th quarters, I'm OK with it. If the deadline comes and goes without us getting better defensively, I will be sorely disappointed.
