It doesn't matter when Landry plays much bigger in terms of finishing around the rim. Hill plays like he's 6'7. Neither player is anything special defensively. I agree with waiting to get him till he's a free agent though, I'm sure any trade rumors stem from the rockets looking to add him AND Dalembert or some other center.
You're underestimating the effect a real center would have on our team. Heck just give us Lopez and nothing else and we'd probably be 10-15 games better. But...yeah. Your point is taken. There ain't much parity in the league right now.
Well Landry and Whiteside would be enough salary to take back for Sacramento to allow us to send them Yao for that $17 million trade exception. Of course, that's after we send the Clippers Jared and Hill for Kaman.
This is all smokescreen. We could get Carl back as a FA this summer. And we got Patsquatch, a comparable player and better long-term prospect. If Carl's coming here sooner, it'd be as part of a trade such as: Houston Trade Breakdown Change in Team Outlook: -24.9 ppg, -5.5 rpg, and -7.6 apg. It's laughable people were crying over losing Landry last year, and don't want to bring him back this year. There's a reason Landry played most of 4th qtr while Scola is on the bench. We'd be 5 gms above .500 if we have had Landry. If you look at the fans comments about Kmart/T Will(yes, TWill) from their previous teams, those players can't finish strong at the rim and somewhat disappear in clutch time. Landry/AB are much better in Clutch times.
LOL Bill Ingram aka the Rocket Guy is stating on Twitter that "the Rockets do indeed, want Landry back, especially if they send Scola to Denver for Carmelo"... Take it for what it's worth. I've never seen anything that he talks about ever come to light.
Why bring him back? He is a nice serviceable player but he has reached already his peak and is nothing more than average. We have more potential sitting on the bench and we need to given them big minutes to see if they develop in something more than average!! This site is so used and in love with average players (Hayes, Battier) and want to bring more of the same type.
Think in long term. I'm the first to criticize Jordan, but is soon to give up on him. He's very raw, but truly has interesting potential, give him the chance to grow up. He will improve with the time, with games, summers, weights. Is soon. You have to be a little bit more patient, you just trade him if he's properly valued. Carl... if you trade Jordan plus Luis, and you trust in PP as your starting PF... he could be a good backup PF. But then you need more size at the remaining big positions.
Again, I keep saying Dalembert and Landry will make up better right away.. I am not so sure in terms of future. Dalembert fixes our center problems Landry fixes our closing problems... we did not had much problems last year because Landry was a force inside... and if he is the same, then it will free up Martin/Brooks. Plus, Landry is all hustle guy.. and hits free throws in high %.
THIS, spot on buddy Landry beings some toughness back to this team, along with a great athlete, a great finisher, and a guy that scores down the stretch if you guys forgot, he was #1 in the NBA in 4th quarter points last season before he was traded
Don't get me wrong: I love Carl Landry (no homo) and was stunned when we traded him. He brought toughness and hustle and a nice mid-range J off the bench. It's just that Patsquatch brings those things now. So the only real basketball reason to bring Carl back now would be if he's part of a trade that fills a real need-- at Center. jopatmac, I like the way you think.
I think the only way we would bring him back is if we're planning on shipping out luis scola, and if thats the case, then im all for bringing him back. He is a consistent scoring threat, and is lacking defese just like luis, but for less money.
The idea of trading for Landry would be because Scola and/or Hill is moved, which needs to happen. Neither player is a part of our long term future. Scola's value is at it's max right now, reasonable contract, plays his butt off, etc. But he's 30 and he can only play one end of the court. He is terrible defensively (as is Landry, but Landry is only making $3 million on an expiring deal) and you get the same offense from Landry as from Scola. Patterson or someone else (Anthony Randolph) is our future at the 4.
MLE in the offseason. landry would be the awesomest pickup morey could do this offseason. could come with a bit of hometown discount too!!! absolutely love landry!!!
