IMO Rockets are not trading Yao. Buyout? LOL. So you are right, Yao will stay, at least for this season.
Morey has no choice but to wait until players resigned can be traded in December, so he either needs to make a trade (that doesnt include scola and possibly martin) or stand pat for the draft when those knicks picks will be golden.Either way, Houston we have a problem.....it is written. Iggy is hurt....for now.... Stephen Jackson is ready to go... Get it done Morey.....we need the "D"
gotta move on..if we want Yao to stay, better for him to be our backup Center..he should not be the focal point of this franchise.
They'll find a way to screw it up... Seriously, I read an article today that basically sums it up...teams like the Wizards do everything they can to screw up their situation and are rewarded with John Wall while teams like the Rockets who have a well run organization are stuck in limbo.
They've had talent before, but never got anywhere. Not sure if Griffin and Gordon changes that. Chances are the Sterling regime will find ways to **** up often enough so that they won't win much even with these two.
Martin & Scola are win now trades that probably won't get good returns. Win now teams are looking to get better without giving up much. They're adding not subtracting. If the current Rockets team are done trading Brooks will be key to jump starting into a new era.
I think its safe to say Yao is no longer the focal point....He will start becaues there are a billion chinese fans that want him too, but will never log the minutes he once did.The question is do you want to rebuild around scola (a 30yr old forward) or martin (somewhat injury prone sub-star)? That is the immediate question.......IT IS WRITTEN.
They are screwing it up right now, they haven't realized their best player is Griffin...they need to get him the ball all the time. I wonder if anyone remembers my Yao for Griffin thread....lol...... DD
Why would the Clippers do this? Money. Sterling would sell his mother for an extra buck and Yao brings it in spades eventhough he'll spend more time on the sideline then on the actuall court. Right now Griffen isallready better then Yao so imagine him in 2 to 4 years. He reminds me off a Carlos Boozer with far more ahteletic ability an upside.
we need we need we need we need.... can't we see that this team is going nowhere? i really really hope that we get one of the worst records this season so that we can get both high draft picks and a max free agent, it is the only way to contend let's face it, Yao era is over and we'll never win with a core of Scola, Martin, Brooks, Lowry....blablabla!
Very accurate article, and really hits on the pulse of things right now. This article reminds me of a team in the 90's that was plauged with mediocrity: The Charlotte Hornets. They had high potential teams that never went deep in the playoffs (2nd round at best) and never maintained their stars either with injuries or trades due to contract disputes. They were on average a 40 win (or less), first round and out team for pretty much over a decade. Really we have to look at the facts, Yao has been injured every year for six straight years. Even in limited time, going 24 minutes a game he got injured this season. I think, like Greg Oden, his body is just not built to handle the long term wear and tear of an NBA season and playoffs. If I recall correctly, he had problems with his feet before he entered the NBA as well (I may be wrong, but I think so). I've said before the season started the keys to our season are health and defense. If we have a healthy Yao, team, and become a top 5 defensive team, I believe this team can win around 50-55 games and contend for a championship. If not (as has been the case so far this season), without health and defense, we will be a medicore team (or maybe a bad one). Without a healthy Yao we will not win a championship, and should look to get a two way superstar in the draft. I'm not for tanking ( a competitive team throwing games for picks), but I am for trading players for draft picks to start over (trade our best players for picks, play our young guys, and get a star in the draft to center our young talent around. Like OKC, or Chicago). Our best players and team leadership are some of our worst defenders and history has shown you can't win a ring like that. I still want to let the season play out and see what this team will develop into. But this is a crossroads, and six years is enough patience. If this team develops into what it should be, none of this talk will matter. It just depends what road it choose.
I don't think the no.1 overall draft pick has ever been traded right before the draft certainly not for a player with a max contract with Yao's injury history. Why would Sterling of all people swap a rookie scale contract for a max deal?
If Yao had any loyalty IMO he would resign with us for 5 million in order to repay the team for all of his lost games. Like how Oguchi Onyewu wanted to get paid 0 salary for ac milan since he missed so many games for them.
