It's better to be a lottery team than to waste your resources on short term upgrades, especially if those upgrades aren't enough to get you into the WCF.
They were at crossroads last year with Tracy McGrady. They moved on and I belive they did the only right thing. In my opinion, now it is time to move on without Yao. That would be the best for the team. Although I can't really see them giving up on Yao because of the market he brings. And if you give up on Yao, who would you get? What can you get if you want to trade him? - probably nothing. And really, it would be crazy to see Yao in another uniform. But, it is time to say goodbye. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QbN0g8-zbdY?fs=1&hl=pl_PL"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QbN0g8-zbdY?fs=1&hl=pl_PL" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Jeez if we tank you guys are going to be all over the Rockets asses for sucking so much... And if they try to win you still bash them.
I agree, at the deadline, or maybe before, there will be some interesting names available like Josh Smith, Jeff Green, Tayshaun Prince, Rodney Stuckey and even Marc Gasol. Now, all these names are interesting but not superstars so that's where Morey might have to decided what direction to go.
It is not that easy to get rid of Yao, no GM in their right mind would offer a trade for Yao that is remotely fair to us, we are stuck with him until the end of the season.
Unless someone is trying to clear a bad contract off their books and going into rebuild mode, sort of like Tmac last year. DD
He has, no question about that. The problem is, he is not your franchise player anymore. He can't do that. SHoule the Rockets keep him? He will be a free agent. Is he worth 10 mil?
I think Josh Smith would be a good addition. His defense plus explosiveness are valuable to any team.
The problem with this team is it's good enough w/o the vets to be mediocre enough to not have a shot at the top 5.
Yea but unless the other assets that comes with the bad contract can allow the Rockets to compete with the top teams it would be pointless, only thing worse than being average is being average with no cap space. I wanted the rockets to take on Brand's contract last season because i was overly optimistic that the team could be a chance to compete this season but that optimism is fading away at a dramatic rate.
I'll be hoping Yao can regain some decent to above average form by Jan because I can see OKC taking a shot at Yao. They have an ultra elite backcourt but NEED size and a semi-healthy Yao could be HUGE for them against the NBAs big boys.
If Yao sticks to the Chinese values of loyalty, he would sign for the min  No Yao is not worth 10 mil IMO, during the early stages of his career his injuries were freak accidents but now that is no longer the case. Too risky to pay 10 mil for a guy that plays 25% of the season.
Make that decision when he becomes a free agent. For now, the fact is he's under contract, so what do you do with him? Keep him, trade him-- most likely not for much value in return, or buy him out (for minimal discount) are the options I see. Anything else out there?
This assessment is so dead on; how long, oh how long? Fans are typically not attracted to a lifetime of misery and disappointment.
I don't see any reasonable justification for keeping Yao on this team past this year. I'd rather see Jordan Hill play 35 minutes a game than see Yao play 10-15. We need to get younger and more athletic. Yao is the complete opposite and slowing down the franchise.
